The Northern Colorado Bears women's basketball team is the basketball team that represents University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, Colorado, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big Sky Conference. [2]

History

Northern Colorado began play in 1970, though records only go back to 1974. They were members of the Intermountain Athletic Conference (IAC) from 1975 to 1982, the Continental Divide Conference (CDC) from 1982 to 1989, and the North Central Conference (NCC) from 1989 to 2003 before being reclassified to Division I in 2003. They joined the Big Sky Conference in 2006. They played in the WBI in 2011 and the WNIT in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019. They made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018. As of the end of the 2020–21 season, the Bears have an all-time record of 661-644. [3]

The California Golden Bears are the athletic teams that represent the University of California, Berkeley. Referred to in athletic competition as California or Cal, the university fields 30 varsity athletic programs and various club teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I primarily as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, and for a limited number of sports as a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Over the course of the school's history, California has won team national titles in 13 men's and 3 women's sports and 111 team titles overall. Cal athletes have also competed in the Olympics for a host of different countries. Notable facilities used by the Bears include California Memorial Stadium (football) and Haas Pavilion. Cal finished the 2010–11 athletic season with 1,219.50 points, earning third place in the Director's Cup standings, the Golden Bears' highest finish ever. Cal did not receive any points for its national championships in rugby and men's crew because those sports are not governed by the NCAA. Cal finished 12th in the 2014-15 standings.

The university sponsors seventeen teams including men and women's basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and track and field; women's-only soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and volleyball; and men's-only baseball, football, and wrestling. The Bears compete in NCAA Division I, with the football team competing at the FCS level, and most teams are members of the Big Sky Conference. Three Northern Colorado teams have separate affiliations in sports that the Big Sky does not sponsor. The baseball team competes in the Summit League, the women's swimming and diving team is an affiliate member of the Western Athletic Conference, and the wrestling team is a member of the Big 12 Conference.

The Northern Colorado Bears football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of Northern Colorado located in Greeley, Colorado. The team competes in the Big Sky Conference at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level. The university's first football team was fielded in 1893. The team plays its home games at the 8,533 seat Nottingham Field on campus. The Bears announced the hiring of Ed Lamb on December 6th, 2022, replacing Ed McCaffrey, who went 6–16 in two seasons.

The Cal State Northridge Matadors are the athletic teams that represent California State University, Northridge in Northridge, Los Angeles, California. The Matadors field 17 teams in nineteen sports. The Matadors compete in NCAA Division I and are members of the Big West Conference. CSUN has been a member of the Big West Conference since the summer of 2001 for most sports. The men's and women's indoor track and field teams compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation instead. Men's volleyball also competed in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, but began to compete in the Big West beginning in 2018.

Mary Camille "Kamie" Ethridge is a former American basketball player and current basketball coach. She was an All-American point guard at the University of Texas at Austin and won a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. She is considered one of the best women's basketball players in history and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. Ethridge is currently the head coach at Washington State University.

The Bears are baseball members of the Summit League, having joined in July 2021 after spending the previous eight years as baseball members of the Western Athletic Conference.

The North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's basketball team is part of the athletic program at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It is a member of the NCAA Division I Summit League; the 2019-2020 season was their first in the new conference. Previously they played in Division I's Big Sky Conference and Division I's Great West Conference.

The Portland State Vikings women's basketball team represents Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. The school's team competes in the Big Sky Conference, and plays its games in the Viking Pavilion, a 3,094-seat arena that opened for the 2018-2019 season. Portland State are currently the defending conference tournament champions.

The Idaho Vandals women's basketball team represents the University of Idaho in women's basketball. The school, located in Moscow, Idaho, competes in the Big Sky Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Starting with the 2021–22 season, home games will be played at the new Idaho Central Credit Union Arena, a 4,200-seat facility located immediately to the north of the team's former primary home of the Kibbie Dome, whose basketball configuration was known as Cowan Spectrum. The new arena will also host the men's basketball team from its opening, but was not completed in time to host the women's volleyball team.

The Eastern Washington Eagles women's basketball team represents Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington. The team competes in the Big Sky Conference.
