The Portland State Vikings women's basketball team represents Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. The school's team competes in the Big Sky Conference, and plays its games in the Viking Pavilion, a 3,094-seat arena that opened for the 2018-2019 season. Portland State are currently the defending conference tournament champions.

History

Portland State began play in 1975, and have qualified for the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament twice, in 2010 and 2019. They have played in the Big Sky Conference since the 1996-1997 season. Since joining the conference, Portland State has won the Big Sky Conference Tournament on two occasions. In 2010, Portland State defeated Montana State University 62-58 in the Big Sky Championship game. In the 2019 Big Sky Championship game, Portland State defeated arch rivals Eastern Washington University 61-59. Portland State has also qualified for the WNIT twice, and won a regular season title in 2011.

Prior to joining the Big Sky, Portland State women's basketball played in NCAA Div. II. During its tenure in Div. II, Portland State played in the Northwest Basketball League from 1977 until 1982. After 1982, Portland State played in the Mountain West Athletic Conference (MWAC) until 1986. From that point, the team played as an Independent through the 1991 season but later joined the Pacific West Conference from 1991 to 1996. In their time in Div. II, they made the Tournament each year from 1992-1996, making the Final Four in 1992 and the Elite Eight in 1995 and 1996. They went to the Final Four after beating Alaska-Anchorage 101-76, Cal-Davis 83-56, and Saint Joseph's (IN) 83-62, but lost to North Dakota State 93-59 in the Semifinals. Portland State won a consolation game 72-69 against Bentley to be crowned 3rd in the Div. II ranks. [2] As of the end of the 2015-16 season, the Vikings had an all-time record of 553-603. [3]

Big Sky Conference American collegiate athletic conference

The Big Sky Conference (BSC) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I with football competing in the Football Championship Subdivision. Member institutions are located in the western United States in the eight states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Four affiliate members each participate in one sport. Two schools from California are football–only participants and two schools from the Northeast participate only in men's golf.

High Point Panthers Athletics teams of High Point University

The High Point Panthers are the 16 varsity athletic teams that represent High Point University (HPU) in High Point, North Carolina, United States. All of HPU's varsity teams compete at the NCAA Division I level. All sports except men's lacrosse compete in the Big South Conference. She was the women's basketball team head coach at Loyola Marymount University from 2012 to 2021. She has previously been the women's head basketball coach at Portland State, UC San Diego, and California Baptist.

Troy Trojans

The Troy Trojans are the sports teams of Troy University. They began playing in the NCAA's Division I-A in 2001, became a football only member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2004, and joined that conference for all other sports in 2005. The Vikings, led by seventh year head coach Tyler Geving, played their home games at the Peter Stott Center and were members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 13–18, 8–10 in Big Sky play to finish in eighth place. They defeated Northern Colorado in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to Weber State.

The 2018–19 Portland State Vikings women's basketball team represents Portland State University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Vikings, led by fourth-year head coach Lynn Kennedy, will return to play their home games at Viking Pavilion after a one year renovation and are members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 25–8, 14–6 in Big Sky play to finish in fourth place. Portland State won the championship game over Eastern Washington to earn their second invitation to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament. They lost to Oregon in the first round.

The 2018–19 Portland State Vikings men's basketball team represented Portland State University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Vikings, led by second-year head coach Barret Peery, played their return home games at Viking Pavilion in Portland, Oregon after a one year renovation, as members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 16–16, 11–9 in Big Sky play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky tournament to Weber State.

The Vikings, led by head coach Ken Bone, played their home games at the Peter Stott Center and were members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 23–10, 14–2 in Big Sky play to finish as regular season champions by three games. They won the Big Sky Tournament to earn an automatic bid – the first in school history – to the NCAA Tournament. As No. 16 seed in the Midwest region, the Vikings were defeated in the opening round by eventual National champion Kansas.

The 2008–09 Portland State Vikings men's basketball team represented Portland State University during the 2008–09 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Vikings, led by head coach Ken Bone, played their home games at the Peter Stott Center and were members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 23–10, 11–5 in Big Sky play to finish second in the conference regular season standings. They won the Big Sky Tournament to earn an automatic bid – for the second straight season – to the NCAA Tournament. As No. 13 seed in the East region, the Vikings were defeated in the opening round by Xavier.
