RAF Little Sai Wan was a signals intelligence station in the Siu Sai Wan area of Hong Kong.

Siu Sai Wan

Siu Sai Wan is a residential area in the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. It is located in the eastern part of Chai Wan, and is administratively under the Eastern District. The population was 59,729 in June 2011.

History

The station was established by the Royal Air Force as base for 367 Signals Unit in the early 1950s. [1] In 1964, following a review by Sir Gerald Templer, control of the site passed to Government Communications Headquarters. [2] The site was decommissioned and operations consolidated at Chung Hom Kok in 1982. [1]

Government Communications Headquarters British intelligence agency

The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is an intelligence and security organisation responsible for providing signals intelligence (SIGINT) and information assurance to the government and armed forces of the United Kingdom. Based in "The Doughnut" in the suburbs of Cheltenham, GCHQ is the responsibility of the country's Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, but it is not a part of the Foreign Office and its director ranks as a Permanent Secretary.

Remote Radar Head Saxa Vord or RRH Saxa Vord, is a Royal Air Force radar station located on the island of Unst, the most northern of the Shetland Islands in Scotland. As of February 2018 it is currently in the process of reactivation, after closure in 2006. The station's motto "Praemoneo de Periculis" reflects its role. RAF Saxa Vord is further north than Leningrad, and on the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska. The station was named after Saxa Vord, which is the highest hill on Unst at 935 ft (285 m). It holds the unofficial British record for wind speed, which in 1992 was recorded at 197 mph (317 km/h) — just before the measuring equipment blew away.

Chai Wan station MTR station on Hong Kong Island

Chai Wan is the eastern terminus of the MTR Island Line on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is the only station on the Island Line that is elevated. The station is located at the junction of Chai Wan Road and Island Eastern Corridor, and it serves Siu Sai Wan and Chai Wan, a primarily residential and industrial town, and the bus terminus nearby has bus and minibus routes to Siu Sai Wan and Stanley, as well as the nearby residential developments. It was also the southernmost railway station in Hong Kong, and the southernmost rapid transit station in China, prior to the opening of Lei Tung Station on the South Island Line on 28 December 2016.

The site is located on the coast road between Cromer and Mundesley, 1 kilometre east of the village of Trimingham. The radar station is a satellite station of RAF Neatishead.
