It is on the second level of women's soccer in the United States soccer pyramid, below National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The WPSL is the longest active women's soccer league as it enters its 23rd season in 2021 - The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The WPSL is also the largest women's soccer league in the United States, North America and world with 135 active teams.
