The Santa Cruz Sand Crabs (also called the Beachcombers) were a minor league baseball team located in Santa Cruz, California. They competed primarily in the California League between 1888 and 1909.

The California League is a Minor League Baseball league that operates in California. Having been classified at various levels throughout its existence, it operated at Class A-Advanced from 1990 until its demotion to Single-A following Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The league temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the Low-A West before reassuming its original moniker in 2022.

Harry Bartholomew Hooper was an American professional baseball right fielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB). Hooper batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Hooper was born in Bell Station, California, and he graduated from Saint Mary's College of California. He played for major league teams between 1909 and 1925, spending most of that time with the Boston Red Sox and finishing his career with the Chicago White Sox.

John Andrew Orton is an American professional baseball coach and a former Major League catcher. In 2015, Orton will serve his tenth season as roving minor league catching coordinator for the Chicago White Sox. He is an alumnus of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he was an all conference catcher. As a player, he threw and batted right-handed, stood 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) tall and weighed 195 pounds (88 kg).

The Watsonville Pippins were a minor league baseball team based in Watsonville, California. The Pippins played briefly as members of the Class D level California State League in 1913. The Pippins were preceded in minor league play by teams that played partial seasons in two other leagues. The Watsonville "Babies" played briefly at the end of the 1898 Pacific Coast League season and were followed the next season by the Watsonville "Hayseeds" of the 1899 California League, who folded during the season. The Watsonville Pippins hosted 1913 home games at Loma Vista Park.
