Savannah Ballet Theatre is a not-for-profit dance company in Savannah, Georgia, founded in 1998 as Savannah Danse Theatre by Suzanne Braddy.

Savannah is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia and is the county seat of Chatham County. Established in 1733 on the Savannah River, the city of Savannah became the British colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia. A strategic port city in the American Revolution and during the American Civil War, Savannah is today an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport. It is Georgia's fifth-largest city, with a 2017 estimated population of 146,444. The Savannah metropolitan area, Georgia's third largest, had an estimated population of 387,543 in 2017.

Braddy founded the Islands Dance Academy on Wilmington Island, and has been teaching children from three years old to adult since 1988. Ten years later she started the Savannah Danse Theatre. The new company's first show was a full-length production of The Nutcracker . The company was renamed Savannah Ballet Theatre in 2013 with the Islands Dance Academy becoming the Savannah Ballet Theatre School of Dance. [1]

<i>The Nutcracker</i> Tchaikovsky ballet

The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".

The Nutcracker has since become known as The Nutcracker in Savannah. Every year the show features a special guest. Guests such as Paula Deen, Mary and Stratton Leopold, and Bobby Deen have appeared in the show. The company has also performed Sleeping Beauty , Swan Lake , The Little Mermaid , The Wizard of Oz and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe .

Paula Ann Hiers Deen is an American TV personality and cooking show host. Though married since 2004 to Michael Groover, she uses the last name Deen, from her first marriage.

Stratton Leopold is an American producer, director and actor who has been in the film business for more than 40 years, producing major, large-budget films.

Robert Earl "Bobby" Deen is an American television chef, TV personality, and restaurant manager.

Ballet Fantastique was founded in October 2000 and currently has three components: A professional chamber ballet company, a pre-professional academy in the Russian Vaganova method of training, and a busy outreach wing. Ballet Fantastique became a resident company at Eugene's Hult Center for the Performing Arts in June 2014.
