The Best of the Colbert Report is a single-disc DVD compiling memorable segments from The Colbert Report's 2005, 2006, and 2007 seasons. It was released by Comedy Central on November 6, 2007.
The Colbert Report is an American late-night talk and news satire television program hosted by Stephen Colbert that aired four days a week on Comedy Central from October 17, 2005, to December 18, 2014, for 1,447 episodes. The show focused on a fictional anchorman character named Stephen Colbert, played by his real-life namesake. The character, described by Colbert as a "well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot", is a caricature of televised political pundits. Furthermore, the show satirized conservative personality-driven political talk programs, particularly Fox News's The O'Reilly Factor. The Colbert Report is a spin-off of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, where Colbert acted as a correspondent for the program for several years while developing the character.

Better Know a District was a recurring segment on The Colbert Report. It offered a humorous examination of a different United States Congressional district in each segment and generally included an interview with that district's member of Congress.

Jansen originated as a recurring joke in the form of a supposed self-published science fiction novel on the Report, reportedly as a parody of Bill O'Reilly's 1998 novel, Those Who Trespass. The character later appeared on the show in a series of animated shorts entitled Stephen Colbert Presents Stephen Colbert's Alpha Squad 7: A Tek Jansen Adventure, with Jansen voiced by Stephen Colbert, and in 2007 became the protagonist of a five-part comic series.
DVD reviews were mixed, with some critics praising the selection of clips, [2] while others suggested that the segments featured in the compilation represented the most well-known stunts as opposed to the "best". [1] Many were critical of the amount of material on the DVD, which contains 175 minutes of clips from the show, but no bonus features. [4]
