The Lick, also known as The Lick with Trevor Nelson, was a music television show which featured interviews and music videos from selected artists presented by Trevor Nelson on MTV Europe. The show focused on rhythm and blues, hip-hop, soul, and urban music. The show aired on MTV Europe, MTV UK, MTV Nordic and MTV Germany. The show later ceased broadcasting on MTV Germany and was available only on MTV Europe and MTV UK. In 1999, MTV launched a 24-hour urban music channel MTV Base spin-off shows such as The Late Lick and Lick Shots also featured on the channel.
It was an informative music show designed to inform the general public about the world of hip-hop and R&B. It used to air every Wednesday at 20:00, and a repeat show with extra interviews and music videos would air under the title The Late Lick at 23:00 on MTV UK. The shows air-times varied on MTV Europe. The show would later start broadcasting only on MTV Base every Sunday at 19.30. The show also released two compilation albums to support the show.
The show ceased broadcasting on MTV Base in the late 2000s to be replaced by the MTV Base Chart.
MTV Lick Parties
Events known as "Lick Parties" took place every year. The show would tour many parts of the UK (such as London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Edinburgh) before it set out to other European cities (such as Dublin, Cork, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Reykjavík). These Lick Parties would air on MTV channels across Europe. Many celebrity DJs and artists play around Europe. Trevor Nelson, Hanif & DJ Dodge being the resident DJs for tours.
Timothy Westwood is a British DJ and presenter. He is often referred to by other DJs and artists appearing on his shows simply as Westwood. He was described by The Guardian in 2022 as "a veteran of the hip-hop scene whose opinions have been able to make or break upcoming artists for more than 30 years". He hosted the Radio 1 rap show and presented the MTV UK show Pimp My Ride UK. In 2013, he left Radio 1 and 1Xtra after nearly twenty years and returned to Capital Radio. Investigations by the BBC and The Guardian into Westwood's sexual conduct found seven women who accused Westwood of sexual violence, as described in the BBC Three documentary Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power.

C4 was available on both digital terrestrial and satellite platforms and played music around the clock, including from their radio side from The Rock, The Edge, The Breeze, More FM, George FM, Mai FM & The Sound. On 1 May 2010, as C4 had been moving away from music programming since 2008, the jukebox side was split off and C4 launched a second C4 channel on Channel 9 called C4 2. C4 2 was only available on digital Freeview terrestrial and satellite platforms. At the end of 2010 an announcement was made that MediaWorks would again re-brand the current C4 channel as FOUR, which meant C4 2 would be converted to a music show as C4 was moved to its Channel 9 position. C4 shut down on Thursday 26 June 2014 at 01:00 am. It was replaced by The Edge TV the next day on Friday 27 June 2014 at 04:00 pm.
