The men's road race at the 1976 UCI Road World Championships was the 43rd edition of the event. The race took place on Sunday 5 September 1976 in Ostuni, Italy. [1] The race was won by Freddy Maertens of Belgium. [2]

Freddy Maertens Belgian cyclist

Freddy Maertens is a Belgian former professional racing cyclist who was twice world road race champion. His career coincided with the best years of another Belgian rider, Eddy Merckx, and supporters and reporters were split over who was better. Maertens' career swung between winning more than 50 races in a season to winning almost none and then back again. His life has been marked by debt and alcoholism. It took him more than two decades to pay a tax debt. At one point early in his career, between the 1976 Tour and 1977 Giro, Maertens won 28 out of 60 Grand Tour stages that he entered before abandoning the Giro due to injury on stage 8b. Eight Tour stage wins, thirteen Vuelta stage wins and seven Giro stage wins in less than one calendar year.

Judith Arndt is a retired German professional cyclist, who last rode for the GreenEDGE-AIS cycling team. She won the bronze medal in the 3000 m pursuit event at the 1996 Summer Olympics when she was 20. In 2004, she won the world road race championship and came second in the Olympic road race.

He rode the Tour de France 12 times, finishing second twice and winning the stage to Alpe d'Huez on two occasions. Kuiper, Ercole Baldini and Paolo Bettini are the only riders to have won both the Olympic road race and the world professional road race.

Molteni

Molteni was an Italian professional road bicycle racing team from 1958 until the end of 1976. It won 663 races, many of them earned by its most famous rider, Eddy Merckx. Other riders included Gianni Motta and Marino Basso, who contributed 48 and 34 wins respectively. The Molteni family continues in cycling with sponsorship of Salmilano.

Nicolas Roche Irish road bicycle racer

Nicolas Roche is an Irish former professional road bicycle racer who last rode for UCI WorldTeam Team DSM. He has twice been national champion and has twice finished in the top ten of the Vuelta a España, and won stages in 2013 and 2015. He started a total of 24 Grand Tours, finishing 22, and he took a total of 65 top 10 finishes in Grand Tour stages, including 43 on the Vuelta. He represented Ireland at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the road race. He has competed for Ireland 7 times at the road world championships.

Ulster Grand Prix Motorcycle race held in Northern Ireland

The Ulster Grand Prix is a motorcycle race that takes place on the 7.3-mile Dundrod Circuit made up entirely of closed-off public roads near Belfast, Northern Ireland. The first races took place in 1922 and in 1935 and 1948 the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme gave it the title Grand Prix d'Europe. The Ulster Grand Prix was included as one of the races in the inaugural 1949 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, a place it held until 1971. It also counted for the Formula TT Championship between 1979 and 1990. According to the race organisers, it is the fastest road race in the world.

2002 UCI Road World Championships – Mens road race cycling race

The men's road race at the 2002 UCI Road World Championships was the 69th edition of the event. The race took place on Sunday 13 October 2002 based around the Circuit Zolder, Belgium. The race was won by Mario Cipollini of Italy.
