1988/89 South Australian Individual Speedway Championship

The 1988/89 South Australian Individual Speedway Championship was the 1988/89 version of the South Australian Individual Speedway Championship organised by the Speedway Riders Association of South Australia and sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia. The final took place on 23 December 1988 at the North Arm Speedway in Adelaide.

Contents

The title was won by defending champion Craig Hodgson who finished unbeaten on the night. Four times SA Champion Mark Fiora finished in second, beaten only by Hodgson in heat 19 while Shane Parker defeated Ashley Norton in a run-off for 3rd and 4th place after both had finished on 11 points.

Jason Lyons, also from Mildura defeated former champion Glenn Doyle and Queensland's Tony Langdon in a run-off for fourth place to grab the last Australian qualifying spot in the 1992 Commonwealth Final in England.

Mark Fiora is a former Australian international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a four time South Australian Champion, and winner of the Australian Best Pairs championship in 1988 with Craig Hodgson. Fiora also rode for 13 different teams in the United Kingdom between 1981 and 1988.

The Sidewinders Speedway is a junior Motorcycle speedway that was opened in 1978 in the semi-industrial Adelaide suburb of Wingfield in South Australia. The Sidewinders U/16 Speedway Club Inc. was founded two years earlier in 1976 by Graham Baker and Roy Bitmead, with help from Rowley Park Speedway riders Robin and Kym Amundson, and their father Bill. As it was then, Sidewinders goal is to promote and develop speedway through its junior ranks with riders aged 4–15, something that had rarely been done in Australia to that point. Once a rider turns 16 he or she then move into the senior ranks.

The 1990/91 South Australian Individual Speedway Championship was the 45th running of the South Australian Individual Speedway Championship organised by the Speedway Riders Association of South Australia and sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia. The final took place on 29 December 1990 at the 300 metres (330 yd) long Riverview Speedway in Murray Bridge.

The 1993 Australian Individual Speedway Championship was held at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground in Brisbane, Queensland on 30 January 1993. Defending champion Leigh Adams won his second straight Australian Championship. Fellow Mildura rider Jason Lyons finished second with Adelaide's Shane Bowes finishing third. Another Adelaide rider Craig Hodgson defeated Queensland champion Troy Butler to claim fourth place.
