The 1991 Individual Latvian Championship was the 17th Latvian Individual Speedway Championship season. The final took place on 10 August 1991 in Riga, Latvia. The defending champion was Nikolay Kokin.
The Latvian Individual Speedway Championship is an annual speedway event held since 1965.
Riga is the capital, the largest and primate city of Latvia. With 632,614 inhabitants (2019), it is also the largest city in the three Baltic states, home to one third of Latvia's population and one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava river. Riga's territory covers 307.17 km2 (118.60 sq mi) and lies 1–10 m above sea level, on a flat and sandy plain.

Artūrs Irbe is a Latvian professional ice hockey coach and former goaltender. Born during the Soviet era, Irbe played for various Soviet league teams and the Soviet Union national team before moving to North America in 1991. Irbe played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes. In 2004 Irbe returned to Europe to play until he retired in 2007. He later returned to the NHL as goaltending coach for the Washington Capitals during the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons. Irbe left the team on June 11, 2011 to spend more time with his family.
Skonto FC was a Latvian football club, founded in 1991. The club played at the Skonto Stadium in Riga. Skonto won the Virsliga in the first 14 seasons of the league's resumption, and often provided the core of the Latvia national football team. With those 14 national championships in a row, they set a European record, men and women's football combined, until the women of Faroese club KÍ Klaksvík won their 14th championship in row in 2013.
Ivans Klementjevs is a Soviet-born Latvian politician and former sprint canoeist who competed from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. He won three Olympic medals in C-1 1000 m at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics. The highlight was the gold medal in 1988, which he won as a competitor for the USSR. He trained at Trudovye Rezervy and later at the Armed Forces sports society in Riga when Latvia was part of the Soviet Union.
FK Daugava Rīga was a Latvian football club, based at the Daugava Stadium in Riga. They play in the Latvian Higher League. The current manager of the team is Armands Zeiberliņš.
VEF Rīga is a Latvian professional basketball team that is based in Riga, Latvia. VEF Rīga is a five-time Latvian Basketball League champions.
