The 1997 French Open also known as the 1997 Open de France du Jeu de Paume was the 17th edition of the real tennis French Open. The men's draw was held at the Palace of Fontainebleau between September 22-28, while the women's draw was held at the same venue between September 18-21. It was organised by the Comité Français de Courte-Paume. The men's draw was the third grand slam event of the year.

The men's singles draw was won by former champion Chris Bray, his second French Open victory having previously won in 1994. He defeated Australian Frank Filippelli in the final in five sets. [1] The men's doubles draw was won by James Male and Julian Snow, winning the final without dropping a game against Filippelli Robert Fahey. The women's singles was won by Sue Haswell, defeating Penny Lumley in the final in Lumley's first singles defeat for four years. [2] [3] The two combined to win the doubles draw, with Lumley becoming the first woman to complete a doubles calendar year grand slam.
