The group stage of the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup was played from 7 August to 14 November 2004. A total of eight teams competed in the group stage. [1]

The 2004 CAF Confederation Cup was the first edition of the newly created CAF Confederation Cup. Hearts of Oak of Ghana beat fellow Ghanaians Asante Kotoko 8-7 on penalties in the final after the two legs ended 2-2.

Format

In the group stage, each group was played on a home-and-away round-robin basis. The winners of each group advanced directly to the final.

A round-robin tournament is a competition in which each contestant meets all other contestants in turn. A round-robin contrasts with an elimination tournament, in which participants are eliminated after a certain number of losses.

CAF Champions League football competition run by the Confederation of African Football

The CAF Champions League is an annual continental club football competition run by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The top club sides from Africa's football leagues are invited to participate in this competition, which is the premier club football competition in the continent and the equivalent to the UEFA Champions League.
