The 2008 CONSUR Women's Sevens was a South American qualifier tournament for the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens and was held in Punta del Este on 18 and 19 January. [1] [2] Brazil claimed the region's only Women's World Cup spot after beating Argentina in the Cup final. [1] [3]

The 1987 Rugby World Cup was the first Rugby World Cup. It was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia – New Zealand hosted 21 matches while Australia hosted 11 matches. The tournament was won by New Zealand, who were the strong favourites and won all their matches comfortably. New Zealand defeated France 29–9 in the final at Eden Park in Auckland. The New Zealand team was captained by David Kirk and included such rugby greats as Sean Fitzpatrick, John Kirwan, Grant Fox and Michael Jones. Wales finished third, and Australia fourth, after conceding crucial tries in the dying seconds of both their semi-final against France and the third-place play-off against Wales.

The Sudamérica Rugby Women's Sevens, is the regional championship for women's international rugby sevens in South America. It has been contested since 2004. The tournament is held over two days, typically on a weekend. It is sanctioned and sponsored by Sudamérica Rugby.

In the Americas Region for 2015 Rugby World Cup qualifying, Argentina had automatically qualified for the World Cup, and two places were available in the Americas qualification process, which were taken by Canada and the United States. An additional Americas team, Uruguay, also qualified as the Play-off winner.

2013 consisted of 340 Rugby union matches that included an international nation, with 295 of the matches being classed a test match. 126 international teams played at least one test either at home, away or at a neutral venue. On 154 occasions, the home side won, 118 away sides won, 5 draws and 63 neutral venue matches. 2013 marked two years to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, meaning for most tournaments; Africa Cup, Asian Five Nations, European Nations Cup, Oceania Cup and South American Rugby Championship acted as Rugby World Cup qualifiers. The Americas playoffs saw the first team to qualify for the World Cup, with Canada winning 40–20 on aggregate against the United States, to join Pool D as Americas 1. The fourteenth edition of the Six Nations Championship took place in February and March with Wales retaining the championship with a 30–3 record winning margin against England, while in August, September and October, the second edition of the Rugby Championship took place with New Zealand completing the sweep winning 6 from 6 to retain the championship.

The qualification process for the inaugural women's tournament of the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens. There are no automatic qualifiers, so all national teams qualified by way of regional tournaments. Unlike the men's tournament, the Arabian Gulf did not prequalify as hosts. The qualification process allocated two slots for Africa, two for North America/West Indies, one for South America, three for Asia, six for Europe and two for Oceania.

The Cayman Islands women's national rugby sevens team represents the Cayman Islands in international sevens rugby. They often compete in the RAN Women's Sevens tournaments.

The 2008 NAWIRA Women's Sevens was a regional qualifying tournament for the inaugural 2009 Women's Rugby World Cup Sevens and was held from 24 to 26 October at the Winton Rugby Club in Nassau, Bahamas. Champions, Canada, and runner-up, the United States, qualified for the World Cup.

The 2013 CONSUR Women's Sevens is the ninth edition of the CONSUR Women's Sevens and was the last qualifying tournament for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. The event was held on 23 and 24 February 2013 in Rio de Janeiro and it was for the last remaining World Cup spot. Eight teams competed in the tournament, with Brazil earning their second World Cup appearance.

The 2017 Sudamérica Women's World Cup Sevens Qualifier served as the regional qualifier for South America to the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. The event was played as a round-robin tournament and was held at Carrasco Polo Club in Montevideo, Uruguay on November 10 and 11. Brazil won the tournament, thus qualifying for the World Cup Sevens.
