In the 2008-09 season, Syracuse University joined the conference. The Mercyhurst Lakers were both the CHA regular-season and tournament champions. The Lakers were 16-0-0 in conference play.^[1]

News and notes

With the addition of the Syracuse Orange women's ice hockey program, the conference schedule increased to 16 games (four games each against the other four schools). In addition, the conference tournament expanded to three days.

Players

Mercyhurst Lakers player and Olympic gold medallist Meghan Agosta was acknowledged as CHA Player of the Year. Agosta led the NCAA in points per game (2.44), goals per game (1.28), assists per game (1.16) and game-winning goals (10).
Wayne State Warriors defender Natalie Payne tied for the NCAA lead in points per game by a defender. She registered 32 points in 32 contests.

Postseason

CHA tournament

The Mercyhurst Lakers were the CHA tournament champions. In the semifinals, the Lakers disposed of Niagara by an 8-2 mark. In the final, the Lakers defeated Wayne State by a 6-1 score. The tournament was played in Erie, Pennsylvania.

NCAA tournament

In the NCAA quarterfinals, the Lakers defeated the St. Lawrence Skating Saints women's ice hockey program, 3-1. With the victory, Mercyhurst College qualified for the NCAA Frozen Four. In the semifinals, the Lakers beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey program by a 5-4 score. In the process, the Lakers became the first CHA member to reach the national title game. They challenged the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program in the NCAA national championship game. The Lakers outshot the Badgers 37-32, but were defeated 5-0.

Bendus was honoured with the award.

From 2002 to 2009, the Lakers were 74-3-5 in the regular season against CHA competition and 14-0 in the postseason.

Mercyhurst featured eight newcomers in 2007-2008 as the Lakers lost 10 players from the 2006–2007, 32-win team. Seven of those players were lost to graduation.

Mercyhurst's Jesse Scanzano was a three-time All-College Hockey America selection and a member of the CHA All-Rookie Team in 2007-08. She ranks No. 2 in career points (225) in CHA history. In her Junior year with Mercyhurst, Scanzano led the NCAA in points with 65. Scanzano played for the 2011–12 Canada women's national ice hockey team and appeared in the 2011 4 Nations Cup.

Syracuse Orange women's ice hockey is a college ice hockey program that has represented Syracuse University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and College Hockey America (CHA) since the 2008–09 season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti and won the regular season College Hockey America championship. During the season, the Lakers only carried 17 skaters, but the club won its 12th consecutive regular season title. In addition, the squad qualified for the NCAA tournament for the eighth consecutive season, an NCAA Division I women's hockey record. The Lakers finished 22-8-3 overall, and were defeated by top-seed Wisconsin, 3-1, in the NCAA quarterfinals.

Bailey Bram Mitchell is a Canadian retired ice hockey player. As a member of Team Canada, she won a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and five IIHF Women's World Championship medals, one gold and four silver, from 2012 to 2017.
