The 2010 Men's South American Hockey Championship was the third edition of the Men's South American Hockey Championship, the South American championship for men's national field hockey teams, organized by the PAHF. It was held from 3 to 11 April 2010 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. [1]
The Men's South American Hockey Championship is together with the field hockey event at the South American Games the official competition for senior men's national field hockey teams of South America. The tournament is held every four years and every two years when there is no field hockey at the South American Games. In 2016 the tournament also was a 2016–17 Men's FIH Hockey World League Round 1 event.
South America is a continent in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It may also be considered a subcontinent of the Americas, which is how it is viewed in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking regions of the Americas. The reference to South America instead of other regions has increased in the last decades due to changing geopolitical dynamics.
Field hockey is a widely played team sport of the hockey family. The game can be played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf or synthetic field, as well as an indoor boarded surface. Each team plays with ten field players and a goalie. Players commonly use sticks made out of wood, carbon fibre, fibre glass or a combination of carbon fibre and fibre glass in different quantities to hit a round, hard, plastic ball. The length of the stick is based on the player's individual height, the top of the stick usually comes to the players hip, taller players typically have taller sticks. The sticks have a round side and a flat side only the flat face of the stick is allowed to be used, if the other side is used it results in a foul. Goalies often have a different kind of stick, however they can also use an ordinary field hockey stick. The specific goal-keeping sticks have another curve at the end of the stick, this is to give them more surface area to save the ball. The uniform consists of shin guards, shoes, shorts or a skirt, a mouth guard and a jersey.

The finalists, Argentina and Chile qualified for the 2011 Pan American Games. [2] Argentina, the defending champions, won their third title in a row by defeating Chile 3–0 in the final.
The Argentina national field hockey team, represents Argentina in field hockey and is governed by the Argentine Hockey Confederation (CAH). The current coach is Germán Orozco, who was appointed after the resignation of previous coach Carlos Retegui in 2018, and the team is currently fourth in the FIH World Rankings since December 2018 after their 7th place at the 2018 Hockey World Cup.
The Chile men's national field hockey team represents Chile in men's international field hockey competitions and is controlled by the Federación Chilena de Hockey Sobre Césped. It is affiliated with the International Hockey Federation and the Pan American Hockey Federation.
The men's field hockey tournament at the 2011 Pan American Games was held in Guadalajara, Mexico at the Pan American Hockey Stadium from October 20–29.
