The Pan American Hockey Federation is the field and Indoor hockey federation for the Americas. It consists of 30 Members. It is associated with the International Hockey Federation and hosts several continental competitions for national teams.

The Fédération Internationale de Hockey, commonly known by the acronym FIH, is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor field hockey. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. FIH is responsible for field hockey's major international tournaments, notably the Hockey World Cup.

The Argentina women's national field hockey team is governed by the Argentine Hockey Confederation (CAH). The current coach is Fernando Ferrara, who was appointed after Carlos Retegui let go in late 2021. The team is currently second in the FIH Women's World Ranking.

The Scotland women's national field hockey team represents Scotland in international women's field hockey competitions, with the exception of the Olympic Games when Scottish players are eligible to play for the Great Britain women's national field hockey team as selected. Scotland recently participated in the inaugural season of the FIH Hockey World League, but were knocked out in round 2, failing to qualify for the 2014 Hockey World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. As of November 2015 they are seventeenth in the FIH outdoor world rankings.

The Canada women's national field hockey team participates in international field hockey competitions. In 1991, the Canadian men's and women's programs united under the national umbrella of Field Hockey Canada to share funding and infrastructure. The women's team made its first international appearance at the 1978 Women's Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain, finishing in fifth place. They were the runner-up at the 1983 Women's Hockey World Cup and the bronze medalists at the 1986 Women's Hockey World Cup.

The United States men's national field hockey team represents the United States in the international field hockey competitions. The governing body is the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA), which is a US Olympic Committee organization.

The Chile women's national field hockey team represents Chile in the international field hockey. The team is governed by the International Hockey Federation and the PAHF. The team is also known by the nickname Las Diablas, which translates to The Devils. It is controlled by the Chilean Hockey Federation. The team is currently ranked 14th in the FIH World Rankings, with 1430 points.

The Men's Pan American Cup is a men's international field hockey competition organised by the Pan American Hockey Federation. The winning team becomes the champion of the Americas and qualifies for the FIH Hockey World Cup.

The European Hockey Federation is a European sports federation for field hockey, based in Brussels. It is the umbrella organisation for all European national federations, and organises the Euro Hockey League. Marijke Fleuren was elected president on 22 August 2011. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Hockey Federation banned the participation of all Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from all events sanctioned by the Federation.

The Asian Hockey Federation is the governing body for the sport of field hockey in Asia. It now has 33 member associations. It is affiliated to the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The current president is Fumio Ogura and the patron is Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

African Hockey Federation (AfHF) is the continental governing body of field hockey in Africa. It is affiliated by International Hockey Federation and has 25 member nations. It bi-annually organizes Hockey African Cup for Nations, a men's and women's hockey tournament for African nations. The main objective of the organization is to make the game of hockey popular in Africa and to increase number of participants.

The Paraguay men's national field hockey team represents Paraguay in international field hockey competitions, that are organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF), the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and is governed by the Asociación Paraguaya de Hockey.

The Chile men's national field hockey team represents Chile in men's international field hockey competitions and is controlled by the Federación Chilena de Hockey Sobre Césped. It is affiliated with the International Hockey Federation and the Pan American Hockey Federation.
