The Bangladesh Hockey Federation is the governing body of field hockey in Bangladesh. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF Asian Hockey Federation. The headquarters of the federation are in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh national football team is the national recognised football team of Bangladesh and is controlled by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). It is a member of the Asian Football Confederation, and became a member of FIFA in 1974, even though the Bangladesh Football Federation was first founded in 1972. Bangladesh was elected as a member of the AFC Executive Committee in 1982–1986 and 1998–2002. It is located in the Motijheel area in the heart of the city. Since 2005, it has been used for football matches and is the home for both the men's and women's national football team.

Bangladeshi kabaddi team won the bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Games. In 1980, Bangladesh became the runners-up in the first Asian Kabaddi Championship and India emerged as the champion. Bangladesh became runners-up again in the next Asian Kabaddi Championship held in 1988 at Jaipur, India. Kabaddi is the national sport of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation's (BKF) president Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and General secretary Habibur Rahman is maintaining the National kabaddi team.

Kazi Md. Salahuddin is a Bangladeshi former football player currently serving as a president of South Asian Football Federation. He was a member of the Shadhin Bangla Football Team, the team which played across India to raise funds during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Salahuddin is the first professional football player from the country to play abroad in the professional league in Hong Kong and considered to be one of Bangladesh's most famous football players. He was a member of the Bangladesh national football team, retiring in 1980. He has an approximation of 111 goals in the Dhaka Football League, and is considered to be Bangladsh's first professional sports Athlete.

The independence of Bangladesh was declared on 26 March 1971 at the onset of the Bangladesh Liberation War by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; the following day the declaration was broadcast by Major Ziaur Rahman in a radio broadcast. On 10 April, the Provisional Government of Bangladesh issued a proclamation on the basis of the previous declaration and established an interim constitution for the independence movement.

Feni Soccer Club was a Bangladeshi football club based in Feni. It was supposed to play in the Dhaka Senior Division Football League, the 3nd-tier league of the country, in 2018. 5,000 capacity Shahid Salam Stadium was their home ground. After 2018-2019 BCL season, the club has been relegated to Dhaka Senior Division Football League. The club was dissolved in 2017.

Sport in Bangladesh is a popular form of entertainment as well as an essential part of Bangladeshi culture. Cricket is the most popular sport in Bangladesh followed by Football. Ha-du-du is the national sport of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is one of the top 10 cricketing nation of the world and have regularly qualified for World cup since 1999, the Country achieved arguably their greatest heights in Cricket when they defeated three of top-rated teams in 2015 Cricket World Cup to qualify for the quarterfinals. In 2015, they white-washed Pakistan and clinched the series by 3-0 and in another major achievement they won a series against India by 2-1 and in the same year they beat South Africa 2–1 in an ODI series and cemented their spot in Champions Trophy 2017. While in football, Bangladesh are only the second team from South Asia to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup (1980). The country's greatest success in football was their 2003 SAFF Championship triumph along with winning gold at the 1999 South Asian Games. Traditional sports like Athletics, Swimming, Ha-du-du, Boli Khela, Lathi Khela are mostly played in the rural areas while foreign sports like hockey, volleyball, handball, golf etc. are more popular among the urban folks. The National Sports Council (NSC) is the governing body to control all the sports federations and councils in the country and is responsible to the ministry of youth and sports. There are a total of 42 different sports federations affiliated with the NSC. Bangladesh Games is the largest domestic multi-sport tournament in the country where athletes and sports teams from all the districts participate.

The 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League was the first edition of the Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League, a Twenty20 cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It started on 25 February 2019 and concluded on 4 March 2019. The tournament took place directly before the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, and features the same twelve teams. The final of the competition was played as a night game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Shahidur Rahman Chowdhury , known by his nickname Shantoo, is a former Bangladeshi football player and manager.

Hasanuzzaman Khan Bablu, is a retired Bangladeshi football player and manager. At club level Bablu is most well known for representing Gopibagh based Brothers Union. In Dhaka football, he has scored 75 goals including a hattrick. Bablu also represented Bangladesh in the 1980 AFC Asian Cup, and played for the country from 1975 till 1982. After retiring, he managed the national team as an interim in 2000, 2003 and 2007.
