The Bangladesh Armed Forces are the military forces of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. They consist of the three uniformed military services:the Bangladesh Army,the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Armed Forces are under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Defence of the Government of Bangladesh,and are directly administered by the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Minister's Office. The President of Bangladesh serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh has the third-largest defence budget in South Asia,The Bangladeshi military is the 37th strongest in the world and the third most powerful military force in South Asia. Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Coast Guard are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs. during peacetime,but during wartime they fall under the command of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy respectively.
The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The air force is primarily responsible for air defence of Bangladesh's sovereign territory as well as providing air support to the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy. Furthermore,the BAF has a territorial role in providing tactical and strategic air transport and logistics capability for the country.
Air chief marshal is a high-ranking air officer rank used by some air forces,with origins from the Royal Air Force. The rank is used by air forces of many countries that have historical British influence. This rank is also equivalent to an Admiral in a navy or a full general in an army or other nations' air forces.
Idris Hasan Latif,PVSM was a former air officer in the Indian Air Force. He served as the 10th Chief of Air Staff (CAS) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) from 1978 to 1981. After retiring from the air force,he served as 11th Governor of Maharashtra from 1982 to 1985.
Air Chief Marshal Zulfiqar Ali KhanNI(M),was the first four-star air officer in the Pakistan Air Force and later a diplomat. He was the Air Force's Chief of Air Staff from 15 April 1974 to 22 July 1978. Upon retirement,he served on a diplomatic assignment,and headed the diplomatic mission to the United States as Pakistan's ambassador from 1989 to 1990.
M Khademul Bashar,Bir Uttom was the Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force during 1976. He also held the office of Deputy Chief Martial Law Administrator and was in charge of the Ministry of Petroleum,the Ministry of Food and Civil Aviation and the Department of Tourism.
Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Abdul Karim Khandker,Bir Uttom is a former planning minister of the Government of Bangladesh. He is a retired diplomat and was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War,He was also the first Chief of Air Staff (Bangladesh),getting the appointment immediately after the independence of Bangladesh in 1972.
Air Marshal Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman,ndc,afwc,psc was Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force. He was preceded by Air Vice Marshal Fakhrul Azam,ndc,psc.
The Chief of Air Staff is the professional head of the Bangladesh Air Force. Only pilots get this post. The appointment is held by a four-star air officer and the current COAS is Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. Prior to 2016,from 2007 the appointment was held by an Air Marshal and from 1972 to 2007 COAS's rank was Air Vice Marshal.
Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar,BBP,NDC,ACSC was the 14th Chief of the Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force. He took over as the chief on 12 June 2015 from Air Marshal Enamul Bari. He is the first four-star air officer of Bangladesh. He was promoted to ACM on 16 January 2016.
Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria,is a retired Indian Air Force officer,who served as the Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force,having assumed office on 30 September 2019 after the retirement of Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa. He retired on 30 September 2021 and was succeeded by Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari.
Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat,BBP,OSP,ndu,psc was the 15th Chief of the Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force. He took over as the chief on 12 June 2018 from Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar. He was promoted to Air Marshal on the same day. He was promoted to the rank of ACM on 30 July 2018.
Shaikh Abdul Hannan is a Bangladeshi retired four-star Air chief marshal who served as 16th Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force. On 12 June 2021,Hannan took over command of the Bangladesh Air Force from his predecessor Masihuzzaman Serniabat.
Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Nazrul Islam BSP,nswc,afwc,psc,GD(P),(Retd) is a retired Bangladesh Air Force officer. During his four decades in the military,he led a Bangladesh peacekeeping contingent in the Democratic Republic of Congo,commanded two air bases in Bangladesh,and was vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU).
Air Vice Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque BBP,BSP,ndu,afwc,psc,GD(P) is a retired Bangladeshi 2 Star Air Force officer who has served as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations). He is the founding Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Before join BSMRAAU,he served as Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bir Shretra Matiur Rahman.
Air Vice Marshal M Sayed Hossain OSP,BSP. GUP,ndc,psc is the incumbent assistant chief of air staff (administration). Prior to join in the current post,he was air officer commanding (AOC) of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu.
Air Vice Marshal ASM Fakhrul Islam, OSP,GUP,ndc,afwc,psc,GD (P) is a Bangladesh Air Force officer and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations). Prior to that,he was Senior Directing Staff (Air) at National Defense College,Mirpur. Prior to this position,he was Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Before that,he was Commandant of Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre. He also served as Air Officer Commanding(AOC) at BAF Base Zahurul Haque,Patenga,Chattogram.
