The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Teams in the NEC compete in Division I for all sports; football competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Participating schools are located principally in the Northeastern United States, from which the conference derives its name.
The Stony Brook Seawolves are the athletic teams of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, United States. The school competes at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and joined the all-sports Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), now the Coastal Athletic Association, on July 1, 2022 after having been a member of the CAA's technically separate football arm of CAA Football since 2013. The team has reached the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament ten times. The Great Danes are currently coached by Scott Marr.
John Fallon Field is a 2,500-seat multi-purpose field in Albany, New York. It is home to the University at Albany ("UAlbany") Men's and Women's Great Danes lacrosse teams. The field opened in 2005, as UAlbany's lacrosse program has grown into one of the National power-house teams in Division I lacrosse. The current bleachers opened prior to the 2008–09 school year as temporary bleachers were used the previous seasons.
The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team represents Stony Brook University in NCAA Division I men's college baseball. Stony Brook currently competes in the CAA and plays its home games on Joe Nathan Field. Matt Senk has coached the team since the beginning of the 1991 season. The team has won the America East tournament six times in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2019. In 2011, the Seawolves claimed their first America East regular season championship. Stony Brook has participated in the NCAA tournament on six separate occasions, winning its first game in 2010.

Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium is a football stadium in Albany, New York, owned and operated by the University at Albany, SUNY and hosts the school's football team, as well as their soccer program. The stadium, with an initial seating capacity of 8,500 opened on September 14, 2013, when Albany made its debut in Colonial Athletic Association football against Rhode Island. It was renamed Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium in 2015 after Tom & Mary Casey gave a $10 million gift to the school. It replaced University Field as the school's current stadium.

Vermont won their first tournament in program history after a 1–0 victory in the final over New Hampshire. It was the sixth victory for the Vermont Catamounts soccer program and the first for Head Coach Rob Dow. As tournament champions, Vermont earned the America East's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.

The five-match tournament took place at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The six-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Vermont Catamounts, who were unable to defend their title, losing in the Semifinals to Albany. New Hampshire went on to win the tournament after a 2–0 victory in the final over Albany. It was the fourth victory for the New Hampshire Wildcats soccer program, all of which have come under Head Coach Marc Hubbard. This was New Hampshire's fourth tournament victory in the last five years. As tournament champions, New Hampshire earned the America East's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.
