The 2016 Guangzhou Power season was the first season for the arena football franchise in the China Arena Football League (CAFL). The team was coached by Ernesto Purnsley and played their home games at Guangzhou Gymnasium.
The Guangzhou Power are a professional arena football team based in Guangzhou, Guangdong. They are members of the China Arena Football League (CAFL).
Arena football is a variety of indoor gridiron football played by the Arena Football League (AFL) and China Arena Football League (CAFL). The game is played indoors on a smaller field than American or Canadian outdoor football, resulting in a faster and higher-scoring game. The sport was invented in 1981, and patented in 1987, by Jim Foster, a former executive of the National Football League and the United States Football League. The name is trademarked by Gridiron Enterprises and had a proprietary format until its patent expired in 2007. Due to the patent, other indoor American football leagues that launched following the popularity of the original AFL developed variants on the arena rules.
The China Arena Football League (CAFL) is a professional arena football league that plays its games in the People's Republic of China. It features players from the Arena Football League (AFL) and other indoor football leagues' rosters while also using players from China or who are of Chinese descent, The six team, eight-on-eight football league consists of four Chinese players and four "foreign" players on the field at a time. The league began play in the fall of 2016. It is the first professional American football league to play in China. The CAFL is not directly affiliated with the AFL and is instead owned by AFL Global, LLC, a company that was created by Martin E. Judge, Jr.

The Arena Football League (AFL) is a professional indoor American football league in the United States. It was founded in 1987 by Jim Foster, making it the third longest-running professional football league in North America, after the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL). The AFL plays a proprietary code known as arena football, a form of indoor American football played on a 66-by-28 yard field, with rules encouraging offensive performance, resulting in a faster-paced and higher-scoring game. The team is based in Guangzhou, Guangdong and their home stadium is the Yuexiushan Stadium which has a seating capacity of 18,000. It was constructed between 11 February 1999 and opened on 30 June 2001, with a seating capacity of 10,000. It was designed by Paul Andreu.

The Yuexiushan Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Guangzhou, China, named for its location at the foot of Yuexiu Hill. It is currently mostly used for football matches and also sometimes for athletics. It is located on 4 Yingyuan Road.

Guangzhou International Sports Arena is an indoor arena located in Guangzhou, China that was completed in September 2010. It is used mostly for basketball and it has a seating capacity of 18,000 spectators. On October 16, 2010, it hosted an NBA pre-season game between the New Jersey Nets and Houston Rockets. A sellout crowd attended this game as Houston beat New Jersey, 95–86.
