The Mountain West Conference (MW) is a collegiate athletic conference located in the United States, participating in NCAA Division I. Its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, as well as an associate member in Hawaii. Gloria Nevarez took over as Commissioner of the MW on January 1, 2023, following the retirement of founding commissioner Craig Thompson.

The 2018 Western Athletic Conference men's soccer season is the 23rd consecutive competition of men's college soccer in the Western Athletic Conference under the 2018 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. The season will feature twelve teams, where five are affiliate members of the conference. Air Force, San Jose State, and UNLV will compete from the Mountain West Conference, while Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word come from the Southland Conference. Colleges in the WAC will begin competition on August 24, 2018, and conclude on November 9, 2018 after the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. Prior to the NCAA Division I Tournament Championship, there will be a postseason conference tournament held in Seattle, Washington at the Championship Field, where the winner is guaranteed to represent the WAC in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The California Baptist Lancers are ineligible for postseason as they are in transition to the NCAA Division I level. Chicago State and New Mexico State have defunct programs in this season.

The San Jose State Spartans won the tournament with a 1–0 win over the New Mexico Lobos in the final. This was the second tournament championship for San Jose State, both of which have come under coach Lauren Hanson.

The San Jose State Spartans won the tournament with a 2–0 win over San Diego St in the final. This was the first tournament championship for Boise State, and the first for coach Jim Thomas. Boise State was the regular season champions two years in a row, but 2019 was the first time they converted that into a tournament title.

The six-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. Boise State won the tournament in 2019 and are classified as the defending champions because there was no tournament held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New Mexico were the regular season champions in 2020. Boise State was unable to defend their crown, losing to Fresno State on penalties in the Semifinals. New Mexico then defeated Fresno State in the finals 2–1 to win the title. This was the second tournament championship for New Mexico, their first since 2011. It was the first title for head coach Rob Baarts. As tournament champions, New Mexico earned the Mountain West's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Lobos were unable to defend their crown, losing to San Jose State in penalties in the Semifinals. San Jose State won the title after a second penalty shootout victory over Wyoming in the Final. This was the third tournament championship for San Jose State, their first since 2018. It was the first title for head coach Tina Estrada. As tournament champions, San Jose State earned the Mountain West's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.

Utah State won the title after defeating Colorado State in the Final, 1–0. This was the first Mountain West tournament championship for Utah State. They previously won two championships in the WAC. It was the first title for head coach Manny Martins. As tournament champions, Utah State earned the Mountain West's automatic berth into the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.

The five-match tournament took place at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas, Nevada on the campus of UNLV. The six-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular-season divisional conference play. The defending champions were the California Baptist Lancers. California Baptist was able to successfully defend their title as the second overall seed in the tournament. This was California Baptist's second WAC Tournament victory in program history, both of which have come under head coach Coe Michaelson. As tournament champions, California Baptist earned the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
