Field hockey at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held on the Gold Coast, Australia from 5 to 14 April. The hockey competition was held at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre. This is the sixth time that the hockey competition was held, following the sport's debut at the 1998 Games.

The competition featured three teams, an increase from 2013 as Zimbabwe featured for the first time ever. Japan as the host nation qualified automatically. In addition, the remaining six nations will be determined by an Olympic qualification event. As hosts Japan also won the Asian Games title, a seventh quota place was added to the Olympic qualification event.

It was held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and at the 20,000 seat Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, India from 13 to 29 January 2023. On 5 January 2023, Hockey India launched the hockey anthem, Jai Ho Hindustan Ki for the world cup. This was composed by Prem Anand and sung by Sukhwinder Singh.
