The 2024 Oceania Men's & Women's Team Badminton Championships was a continental badminton team championships in Oceania sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation. The tournament was held from 16 to 18 February 2024. [1]

Tournament

The 2024 Oceania Men's & Women's Team Badminton Championships officially the Victor Oceania Men's and Women's Team Championships 2024, was a team continental championships tournament of badminton, to crown the best men's and women's team in Oceania, who would qualify to 2024 Thomas & Uber Cup. This tournament was organized by the Badminton Geelong and Badminton Oceania, with sanctioned of the Badminton World Federation. [2]

Venue

The tournament was held at the Leisuretime Sports Precinct, Geelong, Victoria, Australia. [2]

Competition format

The competition was held using a half-competition system (round-robin) with each team competing against each other once. [1]

Tiebreakers

The rankings of teams in each group were determined per BWF Statutes Section 5.1, Article 16.3: [3]

  1. Number of matches won;
  2. Match result between the teams in question;
  3. Match difference in all group matches;
  4. Game difference in all group matches;
  5. Point difference in all group matches.

She officially became an Australian citizen in 2014. She was selected to join the national team compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. She was four times women's doubles Oceania champions from 2017 to 2020 with her partner Gronya Somerville, also two times champion in the mixed doubles event in 2017 and 2018 alongside Sawan Serasinghe.

Chiharu Shida is a Japanese badminton player affiliated with the Saishunkan team. She was the bronze medalists at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Shida was part of the Japan winning team in the 2020 Asia Tema Championships. She reached a career high as world number 2 in the BWF World rankings on 8 November 2022 with her current partner Nami Matsuyama.

The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982. It was due to be played on 15–23 August 2020, but on 29 April 2020 it was postponed to the 3–11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 15 September 2020 it was again postponed and on 21 December 2020 it was announced that it was postponed to 9–17 October 2021.

The 2020 Oceania Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships in Oceania sanctioned by the Badminton Oceania, and Badminton World Federation. This championship was organized by Badminton Ballarat, and was the 15th edition of the Oceania Badminton Championships. It was held in Ballarat, Australia from 10 to 15 February 2020. The team event started in 13 February, and is the qualification stage for the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup finals to be played in Denmark, while the individual event started in 10 February.

The 2021 Sudirman Cup was the 17th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was played in Vantaa, Finland, between 26 September and 3 October 2021. China were the defending champions. They successfully defended their title, lifting the trophy for a record-extending 12th time.

The 2022 Oceania Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships in Oceania sanctioned by the Badminton Oceania, and Badminton World Federation. It had been announced that most of the events in the Oceania Badminton Championships for 2022 were cancelled, including the Men's and Women's Team Championships, due to New Zealand's COVID-19 related border restrictions. However, the individual tournaments were postponed with the possibility of taking place in week 17 of the BWF tournament calendar.

The 2022 BWF World Tour Finals was the final tournament of the 2022 BWF World Tour. It was scheduled to be held from 14 to 18 December 2022 in Guangzhou, China but was later moved to Bangkok, Thailand, and held a week earlier – from 7 to 11 December 2022 – due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China. It had a total prize of $1,500,000.

The 2025 Oceania Badminton Championships is a scheduled continental badminton championships in Oceania sanctioned by the Badminton Oceania, and Badminton World Federation. The mixed team and individual events will be held from 10 to 12 and 13 to 16 February 2025, respectively.
