Richard Irvin was first elected in 2017 with 55% of the vote. [2] He won re-election in 2021 with 54.17% of the vote. [3] He announced his campaign in August 2024.

Orr previously served as alderman for the 49th ward in Chicago City Council from 1979 to 1990. He briefly served as acting Mayor of Chicago from November 25 to December 2, 1987, following the death of Mayor Harold Washington.
