The 72nd Division (also referred to as Division 72) is a Syrian Army division established in 2025 [1] and based in Aleppo Governorate. [2]

The 72nd Division personnel orginates from the pro-Turkish Syrian National Army (SNA). [1] [2]

History

The 72nd Division was established in March-April 2025. The establishment of the Division is based on the merger of five pro-Turkish rebel militias: Sultan Murad Division, Sultan Muhammad al-Fateh Division, Liwa al-Waqas, Muntasir Billah Brigade, and 51st Division. [1] These organizations operated in northern Syria under the Syrian National Army and received significant Turkish support while cooperating with the Turkish Land Forces in several operations. [1]

Operations

Soldiers of the 72nd Division were among the forces sent to the Suwayda during July 2025 due to the clashes with Druze forces.[ citation needed ]
