Aattakatha: The Final Rehearsal is a 2013 Malayalam-language musical romance film written and directed by Kannan Perumudiyoor. The film marks his directorial debut and is based on his own novel Cholliyattam. He had earlier produced films such as Ee Puzhayum Kadannu (1996) and Nakshatratharattu (1998). Set in the background of thakajam, Aattakatha depicts the power of dance which crosses boundaries. [1]
The film has six songs composed by the late acclaimed tunemaker Raveendran and penned by late poet Gireesh Puthenchery. [2] A long delayed project, it released on 24 May 2013.
The main plot of the film involves a French woman, played by German actor Irina Jacobi, who comes to Kerala to study Kathakali, and her relationship with a Kathakali actor called Unni.
Vanaprastham: The Last Dance is a 1999 Indo-French psychological drama period film in Malayalam-language that was directed by Shaji N. Karun. It was produced by Pierre Assouline and co-produced by Mohanlal. The screenplay was written by Karun and Raghunath Paleri based on a story by Assouline. It features Mohanlal in the lead role, with Suhasini Maniratnam, Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar, Kalamandalam Gopi, Venmani Haridas, and Kukku Parameshwaram in supporting roles. The film's music was composed by Zakir Hussain.

Aattakatha is a literary genre in Malayalam language consisting of the libretto used for the Indian classical dance drama kathakali. The word aatta-katha literally means "story for dancing and acting". The narrative framework of aattakatha consists quatrains in Sanskrit metres where the diction also is heavily Sanskritised; the dialogue part, however, is made up of padas, which can be set to raga (tune) and tala (rhythm) and have to be rendered by means of gestures and body movements by the actors while being sung by musicians from behind.

Seethaswayamvaram is a Kathakali play (Aattakatha) authored by Kottarakara Thampuran in Malayalam. Based on the Ramayana, it narrates the events surrounding the marriage of Rama and Seetha, and their being accosted by the sage Parasurama. He has received several notable awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2003, Kerala state Kathakali award in 2020, and Kerala Kalamandalam fellowship in 2017. Balakrishnan taught Kathakali at the International Center for Kathakali in Delhi from 1974 to 2006 and became the Principal of Perur Gandhi Seva Sadanam in 1980. He has written four books.
