The PDP-8 is a family of 12-bit minicomputers that was produced by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). A link register is a register which holds the address to return to when a subroutine call completes. This is more efficient than the more traditional scheme of storing return addresses on a call stack, sometimes called a machine stack. LAPACK is a standard software library for numerical linear algebra.
