Adam Ellis (born 21 March 1996) is a British grasstrack and motorcycle speedway rider and former British champion. [1] [2]

Born in Marmande, France, Ellis began grasstrack racing in 2009, going on to finish second in the 250cc French Grasstrack Championship in 2010, and winning the championship in 2011. [3] [4] In 2012 he again finished runner up, and also competed in the French Speedway Championship. [5] He was mentored by former rider Matt Read. [4] He also began speedway racing in the United Kingdom, winning two rounds of the British Junior Championship. [3] He was signed by the National League team Isle of Wight Islanders as their number eight, averaging 7.61 from eight matches, and also became a Lakeside Hammers asset, making his Elite League debut in October. [3] [4] [6] [7] After the end of the 2012 season he was confirmed in the Islanders team for 2013, as well as getting a place in the Ipswich Witches Premier League team and an Elite League contract with Lakeside Hammers. [3] [8] [9] [10]

In May 2013, he was selected to compete in the World Under-21 speedway semi-final in Lonigo. [11] In 2017 he was made an asset by Swindon Robins along with Zach Wajtknecht.

He was part of the Birmingham Brummies team that won the National League Fours, held on 14 June 2015 at Brandon Stadium. [12]

In 2019, he won the SGP Premiership with Robins for the second time. [13]

Ellis became the British champion in 2021 after winning the 2021 British Speedway Championship. [14] [15] In 2022, he rode for the Sheffield Tigers in the SGB Premiership 2022 and for the Birmingham in the SGB Championship 2022. [16] He helped Sheffield win the League cup and reach the Play off final. [17]

In 2023, he re-signed for Sheffield for the SGB Premiership 2023, [18] where he won the league title with the club. [19] Also in 2023, he was part of the British team that won the silver medal in the 2023 Speedway World Cup final. [20]

He signed for Ipswich for the 2024 season, ten years after last riding for the club. [21]

The Speedway Great Britain (SGB) Championship is the second division of speedway league competition in the United Kingdom, governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). It was introduced for 2017 following a restructuring of British speedway.

Erik Riss is a German speedway and grasstrack rider, who won the World Longtrack Championship in 2014 and 2016, and was German speedway champion in 2016.

The SGB Championship 2018 was the 2018 season of the second division of Great British speedway. The season ran between March and October 2018 and consisted of 11 teams participating.

The SGB Premiership 2019 was the 85th season of the top division, called the SGB Premiership, of the British speedway championship in 2019. From the 2018 league season two teams, Leicester Lions and Somerset Rebels, dropped down to the next league down, the SGB Championship, and were replaced in the league by Ipswich Witches and Peterborough Panthers. Although no promotion or relegation exist in British speedway these changes were taken purely due to financial concerns of the teams that dropped out of the SGB Premiership. Rye House Rockets who had taken part in the previous SGB Premiership season closed down.

The SGB Championship 2019 is the second division of Great British speedway. The season runs between March and October 2019 and consisted of 12 participating teams. The current league champions are the Workington Comets who completed an excellent 2018 season winning three major trophies. Four new teams joined the SGB Championship in 2019 with two of them dropping down from the 2018 SGB Premiership league season these teams were Leicester Lions and Somerset Rebels with Ipswich Witches and Peterborough Panthers moving in the opposite direction. Two teams from the third tier of British speedway the National League Birmingham Brummies and Eastbourne Eagles moved up into this season's league while the Lakeside Hammers did not compete.
