Aklan is a province in the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital is Kalibo. The province is situated in the northwest portion of Panay Island, bordering Antique to the southwest, and Capiz to the east. Aklan faces the Sibuyan Sea and Romblon province to the north.
Western Visayas is an administrative region in the Philippines, numerically designated as Region VI. It consists of six provinces and two highly urbanized cities. The regional center is Iloilo City. The region is dominated by the native speakers of four Visayan languages: Kinaray-a, Hiligaynon, Aklanon and Capiznon. The land area of the region is 20,794.18 km2 (8,028.68 sq mi), and with a population of 7,536,383 inhabitants, it is the most populous region in the Visayas.
Malinao, officially the Municipality of Malinao, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Aklan, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 23,194 people.
Kalibo, officially the Municipality of Kalibo, is a 1st class municipality and capital of the province of Aklan, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 80,605 people.
Aklan River is the longest river in the province of Aklan, Philippines and the third longest river in Panay island, with a total length of 91 km long, Only Panay River in Capiz and Jalaur River in Iloilo has longer. Its drainage basin is the third largest in Panay. The river source is located in the Central Panay Mountain Range on Mount Baloy in the western portion of Capiz in the vicinity of Tapaz, travelling northwards to the mountainous western portion of Jamindan, then northeastward to the town of Libacao in Aklan province. The river traverses the municipalities of Madalag, Malinao, Banga, Lezo, Numancia, and Kalibo before emptying to its mouth into Sibuyan Sea. The name of the river is where the term Aklan came from, and is derived from the word akae, which means to boil or to froth. Because of the swiftness of the river current, the water of the Aklan river seems to boil or froth. Akean therefore means "where there is boiling or frothing".
Batan, officially the Municipality of Batan, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Aklan, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 32,032 people.
Libacao, officially the Municipality of Libacao, is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Aklan, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 28,241 people.

The Confederation of Madya-as was a legendary pre-colonial supra-baranganic polity on the island of Panay in the Philippines. It was mentioned in Pedro Monteclaro's book titled Maragtas. It was supposedly created by Datu Sumakwel to exercise his authority over all the other datus of Panay. Like the Maragtas and the Code of Kalantiaw, the historical authenticity of the confederation is disputed, as no other documentation for Madya-as exists outside of Monteclaro's book.
Central Panay Mountain Range is the longest and largest mountain range in the island of Panay and Western Visayas in the Philippines. With a total length of 170 km long north-south and 34 km width east-west. It is famous for its diverse flora and fauna. Located through the western Panay, started from Ibajay, Aklan to the north and Anini-y, Antique southern tip to the south. Occupied almost the entire province of Antique, western Iloilo, western Capiz and western Aklan. The highest point is Mount Madia-as in Antique standing at 6,946 ft. (2, 117 m) above sea level, located in Culasi Antique near the border of Aklan.
Aklan's at-large congressional district refers to the lone congressional district of the Philippines in the province of Aklan. It was represented by a single member in the House of Representatives of the Philippines who was elected provincewide at-large from 1957 until its reapportionment in 2018. The district was created following the establishment of Aklan as a regular province separate from Capiz on April 25, 1956 through Republic Act No. 1414. Before 1956, its territories were represented in the national legislatures as part of Capiz's at-large, 2nd and 3rd districts. It was a single-member district for the final four legislatures of the Third Philippine Republic from 1957 to 1972, the national parliament of the Fourth Philippine Republic from 1984 to 1986, and the 8th to 17th congresses of the Fifth Philippine Republic from 1987 to 2019.
