Alfonso "Al" Smith, Jr. is a retired American soccer defender.
Smith grew up in Ellenwood, Georgia where he was a Parade All American soccer player at Cedar Grove High School. He played one game for the United States U-20 men's national soccer team at the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship. In July 1984, Smith was named to U.S. soccer team at the 1984 Summer Olympics. However, he and several other collegiate players were replaced by professionals before the tournament. On June 19, 1985, the Wichita Wings selected Smith in the first round (fourth overall) of the Major Indoor Soccer League draft.

The North American Soccer League (NASL) was the top-level major professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1968 to 1984. It was the first soccer league to be successful on a national scale in the United States. The league final was called the Soccer Bowl from 1975 to 1983 and the Soccer Bowl Series in its final year, 1984. The league was headed by Commissioner Phil Woosnam from 1969 to 1983. The NASL laid the foundations for soccer in the United States that helped lead to the country hosting the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the set-up of Major League Soccer (MLS) in 1996.
Michelle Anne Akers is an American former soccer player who starred in the 1991 and 1999 Women's World Cup and 1996 Olympics victories by the United States. At the 1991 World Cup, she won the Golden Shoe as the top scorer, with ten goals.

Concussion syndrome forced him to retire in 1995, Murray had earned 86 caps, scoring 21 goals, including one at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He was also a member of the U.S. national futsal team which placed third at the 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship. Murray is the Direct of Coaching at Accelerator School DC Metro. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Randolph "Randy" Lee Ragan is a former Canadian elite professional soccer player, who was considered one of the top midfield players in Canada in the 1980s.
Carin Leslie Jennings-Gabarra is an American retired soccer forward. She earned 117 caps with the United States women's national soccer team from 1987 to 1996 and was awarded the Golden Ball Award as the best player at the 1991 FIFA Women's World Cup. After retiring from playing professionally, Myernick spent over twenty years as a professional and national team coach.

She played in college for Stanford University, helping her team win the national title in 2019. On January 16, 2020, she was selected by the Thorns as the top overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft.
