The state anthem of the Republic of Karelia was approved by law on 6 April 1993. The music of the anthem was composed by Alexander Beloborodov and in most parts follows the melody of the Finnish traditional song "Karjalan kunnailla". The Russian lyrics were written by Armas Mishin and Ivan Kostin, whilst the Finnish lyrics were written by Mishin alone, and the Karelian lyrics by Alexander Volkov. Since December 2001, the Russian lyrics are the official ones.

Klim Sergeyevich Kostin is a Russian professional ice hockey winger for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Considered a top prospect for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Kostin was selected 31st overall by the St. Louis Blues, and made his NHL debut with them in 2019. Kostin previously played for Dynamo Moscow and Avangard Omsk of the KHL. Internationally Kostin has played for the Russian national junior team at several tournaments.
Anastasianism or the Ringing Cedars falls into the category of (right-wing) esotericism and considers itself to be a new religious movement, often classified as New Age, that started in central Russia in 1997 and has since spread across the world. Ringing Cedars' Anastasians are sometimes categorised by scholars as part of Rodnovery, and often as a modern Pagan movement of their own. The Anastasians also define their life conception as Russian Vedism and themselves as Vedrussians (ведруссы), and Anastasianism has therefore often been classified among the various self-styled "Vedic" religions arising in post-Soviet Russia. It conveys partly conspiracy ideological, racist and anti-Semitic content. The movement is closely linked to right-wing extremists and antisemitic conspiracy theorists in some countries: German constitutional protection authorities classify the movement as a right-wing extremist suspect; the State Security Service in Austria also observes it.

Kostin was a candidate in the 2021 competition to become the new head of the Ukrainian Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). Civil society organisations Transparency International Ukraine, Automaidan, Anti-Corruption Action Center and Dejure stated that Kostin did not satisfy the integrity criteria of the competition. Kostin was not selected. Kostin was the Head of the Verkhovna Rada Legal Policy Committee for two years, from 2020 to 2022. On 27 July 2022, Kostin was voted by the Verkhovna Rada as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
