Houston released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums, all of which have been certified diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her crossover appeal on the popular music charts—as well as her prominence on MTV, starting with her video for "How Will I Know"—influenced several female African-American artists.

In the fall of 2011, Duncan competed on the 23rd season of Survivor, Survivor: South Pacific, where she ultimately finished in 9th place, becoming the fourth member of the jury. In the fall of 2014, Duncan and her then-fiancé, fellow Survivor: South Pacific castaway Keith Tollefson, competed together on the 25th season of The Amazing Race, where they placed in 8th place.

Nintendo Week was a weekly entertainment and news series that reported on the latest and upcoming video games and news concerning Nintendo platforms, including Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS. The series had two hosts, Gary and Alison. It premiered on September 14, 2009 as part of the launch of a redesigned Nintendo Channel, and was only available via the North American edition of the Nintendo Channel. In the series, the hosts presented new game releases, industry interviews, demonstrations, and previews.
The RPI Engineers women's ice hockey team had a successful season in 2008–09 under the leadership of John Burke. The club finished as the ECAC Hockey conference’s runner-up at the league tournament. The Engineers defeated Princeton in the quarterfinals, and proceeded to beat Harvard in the semifinals with a 3-2 overtime victory to advance to its first championship appearance. RPI posted an overall record of 19-14-4, including an 11-8-3 ECAC Hockey mark.
