Alpha was a monthly men's magazine published in Australia between 2005 and 2011. At one point it was the "biggest-selling men's magazine in Australian publishing history". [1]

History and profile

Alpha was published by News Magazines and was established in 2005. [2] The parent company was News Corporation. [3] The magazine was published on a monthly basis and covered articles about men's lifestyle and sports. [3] In 2008 the magazine was redesigned. [4] It reached a peak circulation of 113,000 in 2009, [2] but this had fallen to 65,000 when the magazine was closed in 2011. [5]

The Australian Financial Review (AFR) is an Australian business-focused, compact daily newspaper covering the current business and economic affairs of Australia and the world. The newspaper is based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; owned by Nine Entertainment and has been published continuously since its founding in 1951. The AFR, along with the rest of Fairfax Media, was sold to Nine Entertainment for more than A$2.3 billion. Smith Journal was a quarterly Australian magazine based in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 2011, it ceased publication in December 2019. The publication focused on history, photography, art, and design, but also included articles on architecture, fashion, science, DIY, adventure, and literature.

Rowan Dean is an Australian advertising executive and conservative commentator. After a career as an advertising industry copywriter, Dean was a panellist on early seasons of Gruen, and became a commentator with multiple newspapers and a co-host of conservative Sky News Australia program Outsiders. He is currently the editor of Spectator Australia in addition to being a frequent contributor. He is a columnist at the Australian Financial Review, has written for The Age, and has appeared on the ABC's panel talk show Q&A.

Australia has had a long history of street press media, beginning in the 1980s. Most street press have been centred around music and gig guides, but subjects have also included movies, fashion, and food. Each major city in Australia had at least two music street press at some point, and they were at their most popular during the 1990s.
