And Atoll Biosphere Reserve is a Biosphere reserve located in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). It was declared in 2007 and covers on area of 950 hectares (2,300 acres) on land and waters associated with the Ant Atoll.
And Atoll is biologically and topographically representative of a vast majority of the atolls around Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). It is the most biologically diverse and undisturbed atoll in Pohnpei, Pohnpei's number one marine Area of Biological Significance (ABS) and one of the identified 24 “Priority Action Areas” in the Eco-regional Plan under the National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan (NBSAP).

With a significant lagoon area of approximately 74 square kilometres (29 sq mi), the atoll, which is located 18.5 km south west of Pohnpei, is home to 13 species of reptiles, including the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), 25 bird species, seven mammals, and hundreds of other marine species.
The proposal to make a Biosphere Reserve presents an opportunity to create a model of sustainability. The relationship between the dynamic human economic system and the larger dynamic, but slower changing, ecological system, can support prosperous local initiatives indefinitely.
Done within the bounds of the atoll environment, as to not destroy the diversity, complexity and function of the ecological system, And atoll can stand as an example to the many other islands and atolls of Micronesia and the Pacific. And Atoll consists of thirteen low-lying, forested islets encircling a 75 square kilometres (29 sq mi) lagoon.
Capacity building, fishery/fisheries, forestry, hunting, local participation, recreation, tourism.
There is a very small permanent, part-time population of caretakers on the island itself; therefore there is a very small human ecological footprint on the atoll.
However, there is a more significant population within the transition zone on the southwestern coast of Pohnpei Island.
The Federated States of Micronesia is an island country in Oceania. It consists of four states—from west to east, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae—that are spread across the western Pacific. Together, the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi) just north of the equator. They lie northeast of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, south of Guam and the Marianas, west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands, east of Palau and the Philippines, about 2,900 km (1,800 mi) north of eastern Australia, 3,400 km (2,100 mi) southeast of Japan, and some 4,000 km (2,485 mi) southwest of the main islands of the Hawaiian Islands.
Geography of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), a country located in the western Pacific Ocean, and in the Micronesia cultural and ecological sub-region of Oceania. While its total land area is very small at 702 km2 (271 sq mi), it has the 14th largest exclusive economic zone at 2,996,419 km2 (1,156,924 sq mi).
Micronesia is a subregion of Oceania, consisting of about 2,000 small islands in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean. It has a close shared cultural history with three other island regions: Maritime Southeast Asia to the west, Polynesia to the east, and Melanesia to the south—as well as with the wider community of Austronesian peoples.
Pohnpei is an island of the Senyavin Islands which are part of the larger Caroline Islands group. It belongs to Pohnpei State, one of the four states in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Major population centers on Pohnpei include Palikir, the FSM's capital, and Kolonia, the capital of Pohnpei State. Pohnpei Island is the largest with an area of 334 km2 (129 sq mi), and a highest point of 782 m (2,566 ft), the most populous with 36,832 people, and the most developed single island in the FSM.

A town of slightly under 5,000 residents, it is part of the larger Sokehs municipality, which had a population of 6,647 as of 2010, out of the nation's total population of 106,487. It is situated on the northwest side of Pohnpei island, a high volcanic island surrounded by a fringing coral reef. Nearby to the northeast is the island's largest settlement, the coastal town of Kolonia. It was declared the capital of Micronesia in 1989.

A biodiversity action plan (BAP) is an internationally recognized program addressing threatened species and habitats and is designed to protect and restore biological systems. The original impetus for these plans derives from the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). As of 2009, 191 countries have ratified the CBD, but only a fraction of these have developed substantive BAP documents.
