Sitting volleyball is a form of volleyball for athletes with a disability. As opposed to standing volleyball, sitting volleyball players must have at least one buttock in contact with the floor during the game.

Paralympic volleyball was first competed at the Summer Paralympic Games in 1976. That first year, the traditional standing form of volleyball was contested. Sitting volleyball was later introduced as a full Paralympic event in 1980. The 2000 was the last time standing volleyball appeared on the Paralympic programme. The women's sitting volleyball event was also introduced in the 2004.
The Great Britain men's national volleyball team is the team representing Great Britain in volleyball competitions. The Great Britain Volleyball programme team was resumed in 2006 following an agreement of the FIVB to permit the separate Home Nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to compete together for the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics.
Matthew Lloyd is a British Paralympian who was born with spina bifida and two club feet. He has competed in ice sledge hockey at the 2006 Winter Paralympics, in Sitting volleyball at the 2007 European Championships, and is credited with inventing the sport of Inline sledge hockey. He was born in Crawley, Sussex but grew up in Rainhill, Merseyside and later resided in Hollym, East Riding of Yorkshire. After completing a degree in Business Information Systems, Lloyd worked within the music industry, firstly as a journalist and then within the A&R department of a major record label, before going to work extensively within the sports and leisure sectors.
Robert Richardson is a British male Paralympic sitting volleyball player, playing as a setter. He is the captain of the Great Britain men's national sitting volleyball team. He competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics finishing 8th. On club level he played for Surrey Gators in 2012.
The British Volleyball Federation is the national sports governing for volleyball participation by UK in the Olympics for men and women. Britain has not participated in indoor volleyball at the Olympics before.

Samantha Bowen is a former British soldier and British sitting volleyball player. Bowen was discharged from the British Army in 2008 after suffering shrapnel wounds following a mortar attack during active duty in Iraq. Bowen subsequently took up the sport of sitting volleyball and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
Penny Ricker Greely is a three time Paralympian for Team USA. She competes as a wheelchair curler and competed as a sitting volleyball player. She played in the bronze-medal winning United States team in Volleyball at the 2004 Summer Paralympics and competed in Wheelchair curling at the 2014 Winter Paralympics and the 2018 Winter Paralympics.
