Payyannur is a Taluk and Municipality in Kannur district of Kerala, India. On 10 March 2018, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated Payyannur as the fifth taluk in the district. This taluk comprises 22 villages including 16 de-linked from the Taliparamba taluk and six from the Kannur taluk. The town is situated on the banks of the Perumba River.

He has done more than seventy five plays as of 2020. Babu was born on 14 May 1962 in the village of Payyannur, Kannur, to Kunjirama Pothuval and Kodi Amma. He started acting in theater from the age of twelve as a child artist at Ravi Varma Kala Nilayam with his elder brothers CK Ramakrishnan & CK Thamapan who were involved in theatre.,
