Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail is a Malaysian politician who is the spouse of Anwar Ibrahim, the current Prime Minister of Malaysia. She also served as the 12th Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration during a political crisis in February 2020. She was the first female Deputy Prime Minister, the first female Leader of the Opposition and the highest ever female political officeholder in the history of Malaysia.
The Jatiya Party is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. Anwar Nasser al-Awlaki was an American imam who was killed in 2011 in Yemen by a U.S. government drone strike ordered by President Barack Obama. The Anwar Ibrahim sodomy trials are a source of considerable political controversy in Malaysia. The first trial was held in 1998, and resulted in former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim being convicted, and given a nine-year prison sentence. The 2020–2022 Malaysian political crisis was a political crisis in Malaysia. It was caused by several members of the 14th parliament (MPs) changing party support, leading to the loss of a parliamentary majority, the collapse of three successive coalition governments, and the resignation of two Prime Ministers in less than 18 months. The crisis led to a 2022 snap general election and eventual formation of a coalition government.
The Anwar Ibrahim cabinet was announced on 2 December 2022, eight days after Anwar Ibrahim was appointed the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah and therefore was invited to form a unity government together with other political coalitions. Appointment of ministers officially took effect after the ministers were sworn in the following day on 3 December 2022. Although Perikatan Nasional (PN) was also invited to join the government by Anwar, it decided to reject the invitation and to become the Opposition, therefore this cabinet reflects the establishment of a grand coalition government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH). This cabinet is named as National Unity Cabinet.
