Gold medalist, Koichi Minami, set a world record in the qualifying round. In the final he beat the US archer Richard Spizzirri.

Archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics was held at Sydney International Archery Park in Sydney, Australia with ranking rounds on 16 September and regular competition held from 17 to 20 September. One hundred twenty-eight archers from forty-six nations competed in the four gold medal events—individual and team events for men and for women—that were contested at these games.
Archery had its debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics and has been contested in 16 Olympiads. Eighty-four nations have competed in the Olympic archery events, with France appearing the most often at 31 times. The most noticeable trend has been the excellence of South Korean archers, who have won 27 out of 39 gold medals in events since 1984. It is governed by the World Archery Federation. Recurve archery is the only discipline of archery featured at the Olympic Games. Archery is also an event at the Summer Paralympics.
Archery at the 2008 Summer Paralympics consists of nine events, five for men and four for women. The competitions were held at the Olympic Green Archery Field from September 9 to September 15, 2008.

The Unified Team was the name used for the sports team of eleven former constituent republics of the Soviet Union (excluding Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, and Lithuania) at the 1992 Winter Paralympics in Albertville and the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona. The IOC country code was EUN, after the French name, Équipe Unifiée.
Luxembourg made its Paralympic Games début at the 1976 Summer Paralympics in Toronto, with two competitors in archery and one in swimming. It competed again in 1980, where Marco Schmit won the country's first medal ; and in 1984, its most successful year, where Luxembourgers won a gold medal, four silver and a bronze. The country then missed the 1988 Summer Games, returning with a two-man delegation in 1992. Norbert Murphy is a Canadian archer. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the Men's individual compound W1. He is currently 3rd in the world in the Men's Compound W1.
Archery at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held between 10 and 17 September 2016 at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí in the Maracana zone of Rio de Janeiro, and consisted of nine events. The make up of those events changed substantially from the 2012 games, and consisted of three men's events, three women's events and three events for mixed gender teams. Men, women and mixed teams each competed in two events for compound bow, one for wheelchair athletes, the other open, and an open event for recurve bow, the bow used for all Olympic events.

Jonathon Milne is an Australian Paralympic archer. In April 2015 he won the National Para Championships, held in Melbourne. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics where he won a bronze medal. Milne qualified for the 2020 Summer Paralympics but failed to win a medal.
