Tromsø Idrettslag is a Norwegian professional football club founded in 1920, based in the city of Tromsø. They play their home games at Alfheim Stadion. Tromsø play in the Eliteserien and holds the position as the northernmost top-level football club in the world. The club was first promoted to the Norwegian Premier League in 1985, where they have played since with the exception of the 2001 and 2014 seasons which were spent in the 1. divisjon.

This makes Tromsø the fifth-busiest airport in the country.
Miika Johannes Koppinen is a Finnish football coach and former player who is currently assistant coach at Finnsnes IL. Koppinen played professional football as a central defender from 1998 to 2014. He started his career in Finland before moving to Norway to play for Tromsø IL and Rosenborg BK. Koppinen won 18 caps for the Finland national football team, and made 337 appearances for Tromsø, the third-highest number of appearances by any player for the club.

He was playing regularly for Tromsø in the Tippeligaen since 2008, and became one of the team's most important players before transferring to Kaiserslautern. Early in his career, Jenssen played as a winger, but he has later played as a central midfielder. Jenssen made his international debut for Norway in May 2010, and has since then been a member of the national team squad, and a regular starter since September 2012. He is the son of former footballer Truls Jenssen.

The facility is owned by Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), a joint venture between the Kongsberg Group and the Norwegian Space Centre (NSC). In addition to hosting its own antennas serving thirty satellites, TSS acts as the center-point of KSAT's operations and provides backbone services for the high Arctic Svalbard Satellite Station (SvalSat) and the Antarctic Troll Satellite Station (TrollSat).
Vegard Bergstedt Lysvoll is a Norwegian footballer who plays as a striker for Tromsdalen. He played for Svolvær, Lofoten and Start before he joined Tromsdalen ahead of the 2009 season. After scoring 30 goals in the 2011 season, Lysvoll transferred to Tromsø. He spent the second half of the 2012 season on loan with his old club Tromsdalen, before he moved permanently to his old club in 2013.

Construction began in 1938 and the aerodrome was in use until 1975. At its peak it was the largest water airport in Northern Europe.

The city is located on the island of Tromsøya which sits in the Tromsøysundet strait, just off the mainland of Northern Norway. The mainland suburb of Tromsdalen is connected to the city centre on Tromsøya by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel. The suburb of Kvaløysletta on the island of Kvaløya is connected to the city centre by the Sandnessund Bridge.
