A hula hoop is a toy hoop that is twirled around the waist, limbs or neck. They have been used by children and adults since at least 500 BCE. The modern hula hoop was inspired by Australian bamboo hoops which were then made of plastic and popularized in 1958 by Arthur K. "Spud" Melin and Richard Knerr. Sabrage is a technique for opening a champagne bottle with a saber, used for ceremonial occasions.
