Ataur Rahman Khan is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and former Jatiya Sangsad member from the Tangail-3 constituency. [2] His brother,Shamsur Rahman Khan Shahjahan,and his son,Amanur Rahman Khan Rana,were members from the same constituency. [3]
Khan was elected to parliament from Tangail-3 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate on 30 December 2018. [4]
The Bangladesh Awami League,often simply called the Awami League or AL,is one of the major political parties in Bangladesh. The oldest existing political party in the country,the party played a large role in achieving Bangladeshi independence both before and after the Bangladesh Liberation War. As one of the two most dominant parties in the country,along with its archrival Bangladesh Nationalist Party,it has been the ruling party since 2009,and has since been described as authoritarian.
Tangail is a district (zila) in the central region of Bangladesh. In 1969,Tangail district was created by Tangail Mohokuma from its 237 square kilometers of land and 3177 square kilometers of land acquired from Mymensingh district. Abdul Kader Siddique is a Bangladeshi politician. He served as a Mukti Bahini member and organizer of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He fought with an estimated 17,000-strong guerrilla force in the Tangail region against the Pakistan Army. The army was called Kaderia Bahini. At the end of the war in 1971,Siddique's forces entered Dhaka along with the Indian forces,signaling the end of the war. He was awarded Bir Uttom by the Government of Bangladesh. Since 1999,he has been serving as the leader of his newly formed party,the Krishak Sramik Janata League.
Ataur Rahman Khan was a Bangladeshi lawyer,politician and writer,and served as Chief Minister of East Pakistan from 1 September 1956 –March 1958,and as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from 30 March 1984 to 9 July 1986.
Amena Begum,a former Member of Parliament of East Pakistan,was a Bangladeshi politician. She was instrumental in campaigning all over East Pakistan for the Six Point program of regional autonomy drafted by the Awami League,and on June 7,1966,organized the general strike along with Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury. This strike was observed throughout the then East Pakistan and was the first major indication that an independent Bangladesh was imminent. She later took over as president of the Jatiya League. She died in Dhaka on 7 April 1989.
