Gneiss is a common and widely distributed type of metamorphic rock. Gneiss is formed by high-temperature and high-pressure metamorphic processes acting on formations composed of igneous or sedimentary rocks. Gneiss forms at higher temperatures and pressures than schist. Gneiss nearly always shows a banded texture characterized by alternating darker and lighter colored bands and without a distinct cleavage.

Isocline Hill is a hill in the southern part of the Augen Bluffs, in the Miller Range, Antarctica. The hill rises 100 to 200 metres above the west side of Marsh Glacier and is connected to the Augen Bluffs by a col 10 to 20 metres lower than the height of the hill. It was so named by the Ohio State University Geological Party, 1967–68, because an isoclinal fold is well exposed on the side of the hill.

Franz Hößler, also Franz Hössler was a Nazi German SS-Obersturmführer and Schutzhaftlagerführer at the Auschwitz-Birkenau, Dora-Mittelbau and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps during World War II. Captured by the Allies at the end of the war, Hößler was charged with crimes against humanity in the First Bergen-Belsen Trial, found guilty, and sentenced to death. The Burlington mylonite zone is a 1.5 kilometer thick mylonite zone, resulting from the dynamic recrystallization and grain size reduction of rocks, running from Weston, Massachusetts to Lynnfield, Massachusetts and Danvers, Massachusetts. The deformation that formed the zone is believed to be related to the Bloody Bluff Fault. In 1976, R. O. Castle released information indicating that the Paleozoic Early Devonian Peabody Granite intruded the mylonite zone, giving a young age limit for the formation.
