Baildon Katowice was an ice hockey team from Katowice, Poland. They competed in the Polska Hokej Liga, the top level of ice hockey in Poland, until folding in 1982.
Katowice is the capital city of the Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland and the central city of the Katowice urban area. As of 2021, Katowice has an official population of 286,960, and a resident population estimate of around 315,000. Katowice is a central part of the Metropolis GZM, with a population of 2.3 million, and a part of a larger Katowice-Ostrava metropolitan area that extends into the Czech Republic and has a population of around 5 million people, making it one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the European Union.
Spodek is a multipurpose arena complex in Katowice, Poland, opened on 9 May 1971. Aside from the main dome, the complex includes a gym, an ice rink, a hotel and three large car parks. It was the largest indoor venue of its kind in Poland until it was surpassed by Tauron Arena in 2014.
Dąb Katowice was a Polish sports club from Upper Silesian capital of Katowice. Founded in 1911 as SV Eiche, the club existed until September 9, 1968, when a merger with GKS Katowice took place and a new organization took over the name GKS.
The 1976 Ice Hockey World Championships were the 43rd Ice Hockey World Championships and the 54th European Championships in ice hockey. The tournament took place in Poland from 8 to 25 April, and the games were played in Katowice. Eight teams took part in the main tournament, with each team first playing each other once. The four best teams then took part in a medal play off, and the teams placed 5–8 took part in a relegation play-off. The teams took the results from the first round through to the second round with them.
Albert Mauer was a Polish football and ice hockey player who competed in the 1932 Winter Olympics. After returning from forced labour in 1947, he was a tennis, hockey, and football coach for teams including Polonia Bytom, Start Katowice, Górnik Katowice, KS Baildon Katowice, and Chemik Kędzierzyn.

GKS Katowice is a professional ice hockey team in Katowice, Poland. The team was founded in 1964. GKS Katowice won six Polska Liga Hokejowa titles between 1958 and 1970. From 2017 to 2019 the name of the club was changed to Tauron KH GKS Katowice, due to sponsorship by Tauron Group. The club finished the regular season 2021-2022 in 1st place and won the playoffs by defeating Zagłębie Sosnowiec, GKS Tychy and Unia Oświęcim.

To win promotion to the final round, Warszawianka beat Czarni Lwów, Ognisko beat ŁKS Łódź, and Polonia Warszawa beat AZS Poznań.

Carl Hudson is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with Polska Hokej Liga side GKS Katowice. Hudson was most recently signed to ETC Crimmitschau in the German DEL2.
Wiesław Jerzy Jobczyk is a former Polish ice hockey player. He played for the Poland men's national ice hockey team at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. In total he represented Poland in 125 games, scoring 88 goals. His hat-trick in a 6:4 victory against the overwhelming favorites Soviet Union at the 1976 Ice Hockey World Championships in Katowice became an iconic moment in Polish hockey history. Playing as a forward, his usual linemates were Andrzej Zabawa and Leszek Kokoszka. At club level he won five Polish championship titles with Zagłębie Sosnowiec between 1980 and 1985. After his playing career he has among other duties appeared as a television commentator for Telewizja Polska. He was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit by the President of Poland in 2005.

The Polska Hokej Liga (PHL) is the premier ice hockey league in Poland. The highest professional level of ice hockey in Poland is the Polish Hockey League (PHL); also referred to as the Polska Hokej Liga. Previously, it was known as the I Liga or Ekstraklasa from 1926 to 1999, and the Polska Liga Hokejowa from 1999 to 2013. In 2013, it was reorganized as a limited liability company and renamed the Polska Hokej Liga. It follows a system of relegation to and promotion to/from the Polish 1. Liga.
Mieczysław Kasprzycki was a Polish ice hockey player. He played for HC Vítkovice, Slavia Praha, AZS Katowice, Dąb Katowice, Cracovia, and KTH Krynica during his career. Born in Ostrava, in what is now the Czech Republic, Kasprzycki first played hockey there and moved to Poland in 1935. He won the Polish league title five times in his career. Kasprzycki also played for the Polish national team at the 1936 and 1948 Winter Olympics, and two World Championships: in 1939 and 1947. After retiring he coached the Polish national team from 1952 until 1955, including the 1952 Winter Olympics and three World Championships.
