Sebastian Newbold Coe, Baron Coe,, often referred to as Seb Coe, is a British sports administrator, former politician and retired track and field athlete. As a middle-distance runner, Coe won four Olympic medals, including 1500 metres gold medals at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984. He set nine outdoor and three indoor world records in middle-distance track events – including, in 1979, setting three world records in the space of 41 days – and the world record he set in the 800 metres in 1981 remained unbroken until 1997. Coe's rivalries with fellow Britons Steve Ovett and Steve Cram dominated middle-distance racing for much of the 1980s.
Stephen Michael James Ovett, is a retired British track athlete. A middle-distance runner, he was the gold medalist in the 800 metres at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Ovett set five world records for 1500 metres and the mile run, and a world best at two miles. He won 45 consecutive 1500 and mile races from 1977 to 1980.
The 800 metres, or 800 meters, is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track.
Canada competed at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics with 30 athletes. In order to qualify the athletes had met the world championship qualification standards. The qualification for the world Championship took place in early July at the Windsor Stadium in Windsor, Ontario. The highlighted event at the trials was the Woman's 100m Hurdles featuring "2003 World outdoor and indoor champion Perdita Felicien, Angela Whyte, and Priscilla Lopes who finished 1-3 respectively during the 2006 national championships". The Championships took place in Osaka, Japan in the Nagai Stadium and were the 11th World Championships held under the IAAF sanctions. The event lasted nine days spanning from August 25 to September 2.

Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe, formerly known as BW-Bank Meeting and officially known as the Init Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe, is an annual indoor track and field competition which takes place in January or February in Karlsruhe, Germany. The meeting was first held at the Europahalle in 1985 and is currently a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold-level event, the highest level of one-day indoor meeting in the World Athletics calendar. The athletics meeting is known for having strong fields in the short sprint events. The 2016 edition was part of the inaugural IAAF World Indoor Tour.
Moise Joseph is a Haitian middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 meters. He competed at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, placing sixth in his heat and getting eliminated. He competed again at the 2012 Olympic Games, but was again eliminated in the heats.
Matthew Centrowitz Jr. is an American middle-distance runner, who specializes in the 1500 metres. He won a gold medal in the event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He also achieved a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships. Centrowitz is a five-time national champion in the 1500 m at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Laura Muir is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist in the 1500 metres, having previously finished seventh in the event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Muir won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, and has three other top five placings in 1500 m finals at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fifth in 2015, fourth in 2017 and fifth in 2019. She is a two-time European 1500 m champion from 2018 and 2022 as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games 1500 m champion and 800 metres bronze medallist. Muir is twice the Diamond League champion over 1500 metres, in 2016 and 2018.
Richard Ringer is a German athlete specialising in long-distance and cross-country running. He won the bronze medal at the 2013 Summer Universiade, and finished fourth at the 2014 European Championships and fifth at the 2015 European Indoor Championships. His greatest success is his victory in the Marathon at the 2022 European Championships in Munich.
Craig Engels is an American middle-distance runner. He competed for the United States at the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, where he won the men's 1500 meters. In the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Engels was focused on making the semi-finals of the 800m and was listed as an alternate for the 1500m. He finished 4th in the 800m final and 5th in the 1500m final, missing out on the Olympics in both events.
Diana Lynn Richburg is an American former middle-distance runner. She competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and won the 1985 US national title at 1500 metres.
Robert Farken is a German middle distance runner. He is a German outdoor champion and a four time German indoor champion.
Freweyni Hailu is an Ethiopian middle-distance runner. She won the gold medal at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships over 1500 metres.
