Edward Bertram Johnston, known as Bertie Johnston, was the Western Australian Legislative Assembly member for Williams-Narrogin from 1911 to 1928, and a Senator from 1929 until 1942. His resignation from the Australian Labor Party in 1915 made possible the defeat of John Scaddan's Labor government in Western Australia.
Robert "Bert" Johnston was a Scottish footballer who played for Sunderland and the Scotland national football team as a central defender. He was born in Falkirk, Scotland. He made his debut for Sunderland on 25 April 1931 against West Ham United in a 3–0 win at Upton Park. He joined Sunderland aged just 20 and found it hard to break into the team, though after others left, he played more regularly. Johnston played for Sunderland from 1929 until 1939 making 146 league appearances, without scoring a goal. Although his playing career was curtailed by the Second World War, he worked as a coach for Sunderland between 1951 and 1957.
