The Oklahoma–Texas football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between border rivals Oklahoma and Texas. The Texas Longhorns are the athletic teams representing the University of Texas at Austin. The teams are sometimes referred to as the Horns and take their name from Longhorn cattle that were an important part of the development of Texas, and are now the official "large animal" of the U.S. state of Texas. Generally, both the men's and women's teams are referred to as the Longhorns, and the mascot is a Texas Longhorn steer named Bevo. The Longhorns have consistently been ranked as the biggest brand in collegiate athletics, in both department size and breadth of appeal.

The University of Texas Longhorn Band (LHB), also known as the Showband of the Southwest, is the marching band of The University of Texas at Austin. The Longhorn Band was founded in 1900 by distinguished professor of chemistry, Dr. Eugene P. Schoch. The band is currently under the direction of Dr. Cliff Croomes. The band performs at all in-state football games, for various Texas Longhorn Athletics teams, and at special pep rallies and parades throughout the year. The band includes about 375 students, all of whom must register for a year-round course offered by the Butler School of Music.

Rodrique Charles Wright is an American former college and professional football player who currently serves as defensive end coach for the University of Miami football team. He was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL) for a total of five seasons. He played college football for the University of Texas, and was recognized as a consensus All-American. The NFL's Miami Dolphins chose him in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft, and he also played for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Waldemar Eric Metzenthin was a German American scholar and college sports coach and administrator. He served as professor of German studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He also coached the Texas Longhorns football team and men's basketball team from 1907 to 1908 and 1909 to 1911, respectively, and served as the athletic director at Texas from 1930 to 1935.

Semponius "Semp" Russ was an American tennis player. He competed in the men's singles and doubles events at the 1904 Summer Olympics. He was also the quarterback of the Texas Longhorns from 1898 to 1900; chosen for an all-time Texas team by R. W. Franklin.

Samuel George Ehlinger is an American football quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He played high school football at Westlake in Austin, Texas, where he broke various school records held by Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Drew Brees and Nick Foles, before committing to play college football at Texas. As a freshman there, Ehlinger split playing time with quarterback Shane Buechele before taking over as the starter in 2018, where he led the team to the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game and two bowl games. He was selected by the Colts in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
