Birdville was a former community in Tarrant County, Texas that was founded around 1840. Today, the community is known and incorporated as Haltom City, Texas.

Texas is the second largest state in the United States by area and population. Geographically located in the South Central region of the country, Texas shares borders with the U.S. states of Louisiana to the east, Arkansas to the northeast, Oklahoma to the north, New Mexico to the west, and the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas to the southwest, and has a coastline with the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast.

Haltom City is a city that is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth region and inside Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 42,409 at the 2010 census. Haltom City is a inner suburb of Fort Worth, a principal city of the DFW Metroplex. The city is 6 miles from Downtown Fort Worth, 30 miles from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, and 20 miles from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Irving. Haltom City is surrounded almost entirely by Fort Worth, North Richland Hills, Watauga, and Richland Hills.

History

A team of Texas Rangers led by Jonathan Bird were dispatched by Sam Houston to establish a fort to defend local settlers from attack by natives and bandits. The fort was located southeast of the city near the present location of Calloway's Lake on the north bank of the Trinity River near the current location of the Viridian subdivision. In 1849, after the establishment of Camp Worth, new settlements began arising in the area, including Birdville, which had a population of around fifty by 1849, when Tarrant County was established. In August of the following year, Birdville was selected as the county seat, a title which it lost to Fort Worth in November 1856.^[1] In 1882, Birdville's first public school was established, and the Birdville Independent School District was established in 1896. The former area of Birdville was subsequently annexed by Haltom City in the latter part of the 20th century.^[2]^[3]

Samuel Houston was an American soldier and politician. An important leader of the Texas Revolution, Houston served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas, and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate. He also served as the sixth governor of Tennessee and the seventh governor of Texas, the only American to be elected governor of two different states in the United States.

The Trinity River is a 710-mile-long (1,140 km) river in Texas, and is the longest river with a watershed entirely within the U.S. state of Texas. It rises in extreme northern Texas, a few miles south of the Red River. The headwaters are separated by the high bluffs on the southern side of the Red River.

North Richland Hills is a city inside Tarrant County, Texas, United States, and a mid-to-high end suburb of Fort Worth. The population was 63,343 at the 2010 census, making it the third largest city in Tarrant County. In 2006, North Richland Hills was selected as one of the "Top 100 Best Places to live in America" according to Money magazine and in 2016, the Dallas Morning News ranked North Richland Hills #9 on its list of best Dallas-Fort Worth neighborhoods. Major streets and highways include FM 1938, Mid Cities Boulevard, Bedford-Euless Road, Interstate Highway 820, North Tarrant Parkway, FM 3029 and TX SH 26. Watauga is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States, and a suburb of Fort Worth. The population was 23,497 at the 2010 census. The cities' businesses and retail market is generally located on Highway 377.

Grand Prairie is a city in Dallas County, Tarrant County, and Ellis County, Texas, in the United States. It is part of the Mid-Cities region in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It has a population of 175,396 according to the 2010 census, making it the fifteenth most populous city in the state.

Area codes 817 and 682 are Texas telephone area codes for numbers in Fort Worth and most of the western portion of the Metroplex. Area code 817 was created as a flash-cut sometime during 1953, but available databases do not indicate from which area code it was split, as all original area codes were created in October 1947. Based on proximity, however, it was probably split from area codes 214 and 915.

Bird's Fort was a community about 22 miles (35 km) northwest of present downtown Dallas in present-day Arlington, Texas (USA). In 1841, when John Neely Bryan established Dallas, he invited the settlers at Bird's Fort to come live in his proposed city.

The Birdville Independent School District is a K-12 public school district based in Haltom City, Texas (USA). The name derives from a former community in the area, which later became part of Haltom City.

Birdville High School (BHS) is a public high school located in the city of North Richland Hills, Texas and is the second newest school in the Birdville Independent School District. Established in 1999, it was the third high school built into the Birdville Independent School District. Birdville High School is home to the Birdville Hawks and hosts grades 9-12. For the 2009-2010 school year, according to the TEA, Birdville High School's population consisted of 6.3% Black/African American, 20.6% Hispanic/Latino(a), 68.3% White/Caucasian, 0.6% Native American, and 4.2% Asian/Pacific Islander.

The Knights of Pythias Building is an historic three-story redbrick Knights of Pythias building located at 315 Main Street in Fort Worth, Texas. Also known as the Knights of Pythias Castle Hall, it was built in 1901 on the site of an 1881 structure, the first Pythian Castle Hall ever built, which had burned earlier the same year. The building housed the city's first offset printing press and coin-operated laundry. On April 28, 1970, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The building is also a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (RTHL). In 1981 it was restored and is now part of the Sundance Square area of downtown Fort Worth. The lead tenant in the building today is Haltom's Jewelers.

Kelly Gene Hancock is an American businessman and Republican State Senator for District 9, which encompasses portions of Tarrant and Dallas counties, including all or part of the following communities in Tarrant County: Arlington, Bedford, Colleyville, Euless, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Grapevine, Haltom City, Hurst, Keller, North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, Saginaw, Southlake, Trophy Club, Watauga and Westlake. In Dallas County, Senate District 9 includes portions of Dallas, Grand Prairie, and Irving. Hancock was elected to the Texas Senate in November 2012, having previously served three terms in the Texas House of Representatives.
