Hooghly Mohsin College (HMC) began on 1 August 1836 as the New Hooghly College. It was established by Muhammad Mohsin, who also started other colleges. On its 100th anniversary it was renamed Hooghly Mohsin College. It became affiliated to University of Calcutta since the latter's initiation in 1857. His most recent book is the bestselling Aimless in Banaras: Wanderings in India’s Holiest City, published in December 2019. In August 2017 he published Gazing at Neighbours: Travels Along the Line That Partitioned India, to coincide with seventy years of Partition of India. He is also the author of Longing, Belonging: An Outsider at Home in Calcutta (2014), which is a portrait of present-day Kolkata, and the acclaimed Tamarind City: Where Modern India Began (2012), which is a portrait of Madras, now known as Chennai. In 2009 he published the hugely popular Chai, Chai: Travels in Places Where You Stop but Never Get Off, which The Telegraph (Kolkata) called "a delightful travelogue with a difference" and which was subsequently translated into Hindi and Marathi.

Krishna Chandra Das (1869–1934), more commonly referred to as K.C. Das, was a Bengali confectioner, entrepreneur, businessman and Bengali cultural icon of the early 20th century. Born in the year 1869 in Bagbazar, Kolkata, Krishna Chandra was the only son and successor of the Bengali confectioner and sweetmeat inventor Nobin Chandra Das. Krishna Chandra was a versatile enthusiast with a spirit of scientific exploration. He developed an electric loom, a soda fountain machine, did extensive research on homeopathy, and researched eastern and western classical music. Krishna Chandra Das became an iconic figure in the 1930s Kolkata with his original creation the "Rossomalai" and the vacuum canned "Rossogolla", which were popularized and promoted throughout India by his family organization K.C. Das Private Limited, founded by Krishna Chandra's son and successor Sarada Charan Das.

Baazi is an upcoming Indian Bengali-language action thriller film directed by Anshuman Pratyush and produced by Jeet, Gopal Madnani and Amit Jumrani under the banner of Jeetz Filmworks Pvt. Ltd. The film starring Jeet and Mimi Chakraborty is an official remake of 2016 Telugu film Nannaku Prematho. The film shot in London was wrapped up in October 2020. The story of the film revolves around a man (Jeet), who has to take revenge for his father to give him new life. The film was scheduled to be released on 14 May 2021 coinciding with Eid al-Fitr.
