Vertical Horizon is an American alternative rock band, formed in Washington, D.C. Vocalists and guitarists Matt Scannell and Keith Kane started the band in 1991 when they were students at Georgetown University. The band have undergone multiple line-up changes since their formation, with Scannell overseeing every iteration as the band's leader. Vertical Horizon are best known for their Billboard number one single "Everything You Want", the title track to their third studio album. Other notable singles from the band's career include "You're a God", "Best I Ever Had ", and "I'm Still Here".

Anthony "Duster" Bennett was a British blues singer and musician. Based in London, his first album Smiling Like I'm Happy saw him playing as a one-man band, playing a bass drum with his foot and blowing a harmonica on a rack while strumming a 1952 Les Paul Goldtop guitar given to him in 1968 by Peter Green. Backed by his girlfriend Stella Sutton and the original Fleetwood Mac on three tracks, the album was well received. He remained popular on the local blues club scene until his death in a car crash in 1976.

Christine Perfect is the debut solo album of former Chicken Shack keyboardist and singer Christine Perfect. The album was released just after Perfect had left Chicken Shack, but before she joined Fleetwood Mac. It contained the Etta James song "I'd Rather Go Blind", which had earlier been a hit single for Chicken Shack. Since both Chicken Shack and Perfect were on the same record label, Blue Horizon, the exact same Chicken Shack recording of "I'd Rather Go Blind" was included on her solo album. Most of the remaining songs on the album were performed by the Christine Perfect band, which included Top Topham and Rick Hayward on guitars; Martin Dunsford on bass, and Chris Harding on drums. Fleetwood Mac’s Danny Kirwan and John McVie perform on “When You Say,” Christine’s cover of Danny Kirwan’s 1969 song from Then Play On.

Four takes were recorded on August 4 at the Hollywood Recording Studio, conducted by LeRoy Shield, with MacDonald and the vocal group The Rounders; the second take was chosen for release.
